Description from Crazy Chick Frida: I have lots of acrylic paint as I use it in my paintings, so naturally I use it in jewelry. My consern is this; I'm scared of getting "sticky" or "easy trashed/tarnished finish". I have the glossy claudine h studio medium. I have two projects that feel a bit sticky not that I can see that stuff gettin stucked just... I dunno if I imagine this. One project is for the crystal challange the other is my M wire bracelet / check design gallery. The wire is artistic brass wire that is treated someway. I hammered and sandpapered it. First I used just gilderspaste but wasnt happy with it and I think it actually whashed away. Then I used paint and then gilders and then finish gloss. I need tips on how you doing it? What kind of finish? I also read on gilders paste homepage that metal need be "treated" bf using gilders to make the metal get teeths. Then one could use a acrylic coating could be used. Maybe my pices just gonna take some weeks to harden?
Sorry lots of text. Hope u understand, very tierd... :)

Elis Mom says:Frida, I understand, but I don’t know….maybe treat with some sort of varnish? maybe even clear nail polish?
On Jan 20, 2013 at 8:33 pm #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Yeah, might have been some gilder p leaft and then the acrylic didn’t work on top. See I’m impatient
Can be that it takes longer time to dry. I have used the claudin h medium on other pices and it has worked. Bought it cause I saw that Ali recomended it.
Actually the gloss hasn’t become hard because i can move it with my nail. Hmm but then I put it on this morning and quite thick… Well lets see to morrow…
Good night

Julie Shane says:Frida, I was reading a bunch of stuff on gilder’s paste. I think it takes 24 hours to “cure” before it’s ready for the next step. The recommendation was Krylon matte spray to finish it.
On Jan 20, 2013 at 9:29 pm #
Asia says:Yes, Julie is right, at least 12 hrs., I use the Krylon, but any spray that can be used on metal will do, you need a trip to the hardware store and when you there you can pick up all sorts of neat things perfect for jewelry, Good Night!!!

Deb Harding says:Frida…I don’t know about gilders paste and metal but in furniture finishing for a surface to get a tooth you have to rough it up…sand it. This gives the paint or stain something to grab onto and let’s it sink down into it. This is especially true of things that have a super slick surface which I.expect most metal has.

Chicky Zee aka Alice says:Frida I have’t use tried any of these good luck!
On Jan 21, 2013 at 6:33 am #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Thank you for your answers
The gilder p. had cured for 12 hours at least. Might have been the mix of mediums. I roughed it up some by sanding it. One can use etching solutin to prepare the metal as well or a primer coat.
Seems like one can’t get hold of Krylon in Sweden. Is it safe to use on jewelry? One doesn’t want stuff that intoxicate.
Well think the M design needs a bath
The other design I have no gilders on just acrylig and coat, I will see what I do with that.
I’m a bit angry now
On Jan 21, 2013 at 6:57 am #
Deb Harding says:Krylon.is just a spray paint brand. Any brand of spray paint that has.the clear sealer would.probably work. I’m.sorry things aren’t working out with this project Frida. Just take a big breath, read up on the process again, figure out how to fix it and do each step slowly. Unfortunately some things don’t like to be rushed. But.I would step.away for a few. Rarely is anything good accomplished in anger.

Asia says:Frida, Deb is so right take a breath, you might be able to get a Pebeo paint in Sweden, but remember it has to be the one good for metals, good luck
On Jan 21, 2013 at 7:18 am #
Crazy Chick Frida says:I try to take deep breath
I will check the metal paints

Asia says:Lucky you, I’m in the -30 deep freeze right now, it suppose start warming up by the weekend, keeping my fingers crossed.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 7:38 am #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Brrrrrr thats coold… We have around -7 -10 cold but nothing compared to the north of Swe… or Canada
On Jan 21, 2013 at 7:53 am #
Deb Harding says:Asia I do not.understand how you can survive in -30°. Honey you need to move. Come.south…we might have more bugs but its so much warmee.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 7:59 am #
Asia says:Deb, i’m not permanently here, I’m just not outside too much, i just work, work, work. Have to run
On Jan 21, 2013 at 8:12 am #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Yes – 30 is not a hit, I lived where we had such temperatures… The thing here in the south is that it’s often high humidity and then when it’s some – and windy it’s cold, not nice…
On Jan 21, 2013 at 9:08 am #
puppychick labratbecky says:Very entertaining thread, ladies.
!!
LOVE the kitty and the dog!!! and your sense of humor, Frida!! Go to a hardware store and ask the paint person for a clear spray sealer that works on metal. I am sure they have something. I have painted bike frames with it and they are slick.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 9:09 am #
puppychick labratbecky says:Oh, and it’s -11 here today.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 9:26 am #
Luna Chick aka Coral says:Thanks for the words of wisdom from those of you who have experience playing with color! Good luck finishing your piece Frida.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 9:55 am #
NY Bella says:Love your Bobsan!
On Jan 21, 2013 at 10:20 am #
CAS says:Heyly/Bobsan is adorable!
She looks like she’s wearing a pink mouse hat, and “rocking it” at that.
I agree with the others … patience and clear spray paint are the answer.
We’re waiting for the minus zero weather here in New England … it should be here in a day or so … oh joy joy …

Medieval Momma says:So much valuable information in such a fun conversation! And a pick I wouldn’t mind being POD!
On Jan 21, 2013 at 1:53 pm #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Wouldn’t mind this being POD either
Heyly says thank you! She is one of my 6 dear kitties
Well my piece gonna need a bath is not working… Now what should I put it in? Aceton? The prob is the shellpearls might get damaged?
Are you sure those clear sealers aint toxic?
Bout the weather I want summer now, freezing my butt
On Jan 21, 2013 at 5:15 pm #
Deb Harding says:Frida I.hate to.tell you this but to protect the pearls and crystals you might want to undo that part.of.the wire. Leave your main piece intact but take the small wire off. I don’t know what acetone will do to shell pearls but I cant imagine it would be good. I mean it dissolves fake fingernails and paint.
On Jan 21, 2013 at 5:27 pm #
Crazy Chick Frida says:Nope can’t be good
Darn all those hours… The main piece takes almost no effort and time. But painting and the wrapping. In the end = lesson learnd and training… Well first I might try to brush it and see what happens. Right now grrr grrrrrawwwl
On Jan 21, 2013 at 6:46 pm #
Deb Harding says:Oh believe me I totally get the frustrated growl. There’s major aggravation when you put all this creative energy into a project and want it to match that image you have in your head. Then for some reason, be it bad materials, not having the skills, overconfidence and therefore rushing or just plain ole lousy luck, it doesn’t work. But you usually learn from the process. Good luck Frida.
