Description from Lynn Eileen Chicky LE: Several of you dear ladies have noticed I have been AWOL lately. I have been struggling to pass a kidney stone since late last week. Last weekend, the pain got worse and I started vomiting from the pain. That continued throughout the day on Sunday (Mother's Day!). Sigh -- what fun. I went to my doctor on Monday morning. She confirmed through a CT scan that it is a very large (9 mm!!!) stone that is almost completely blocking my right ureter (tube from kidney to bladder). Since it is too large to pass on its own, I was sent to see a urologist. He agreed and has scheduled me for surgery at 1 PM on Monday the 17th to go in and blast it with a laser. He doesn’t want to do the surgery sooner because he is hoping the stone will drop lower in the ureter so he can reach it easier with the laser. Sigh.
I'll be having a general anesthetic, as the surgeon will be going up vaginally through the urethra to do the surgery. Also, he will be leaving a stent in place in the ureter because of all the inflammation it currently has and will incur during surgery. About a week later, I'll return to his office and he'll remove the stent which will be attached to a string (similar to a tampon) by just pulling it gently out. At that time, he'll also talk with me about ways to prevent kidney stones. I think maybe going off one of my migraine preventative meds would help, as that is one of its side effects.
Right now I am staying home, doped up on pain killers, and without much appetite. Once the surgery is over on Monday, I’ll be able to go home in the late afternoon and recover at home for a few days.
More fun news -- besides this mega-stone, there is another one behind it in the same ureter waiting to pass. Hopefully, the surgeon will be able to blast them both or the smaller one will be able to slide out on its own. I also have several smaller stones in EACH kidney, just biding their time. Boo.
I have a history of kidney stones over the last few years and am sooooo tired of the pain and inconvenience. I've never had one this bad before, though!!!

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I’ve included all the beads and some charms I could find here that are 9mm in size!
The nest and bird are for the wonderful Chickies here in our LB Nest who have supported me through so many things this past year. Once more, please?
The heart is for my wonderful hubby Bob who is taking such good care of me. He has already taken off work twice this week to take me to the doctor; now he’ll take off next Monday & Tuesday to be with me at the Surgery Center & at home. He’s a keeper!!!
The dog is my sweet toy poodle Shelby — always there with a lick and a snuggle when I need her!
The angel is for prayers, good thoughts, good wishes — whatever you can spare on Monday, please!
AquaKitty is in here because I think he is going to assist the surgeon……LOL

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Oh, here’s another kicker — I was supposed to meet Movie Chick aka Susan from Texas for dinner on Monday!!! She will be near me for a work conference and we have been planning this almost a year!!!
Luckily, she was totally understanding, but, still……I am really bummed out about not getting to meet her this time.

KittyMom Linda says:Oh Lynn, I will be stopping whatever I am doing and send prayers your way on Monday at 1:00. I have a feeling Aqua Kitty will not be the one doing the assisting – probably the surgeon will be doing the assisting – you know how Aqua Kitty is!!! I am fortunate to never had any kidney stones. But, if I could, I would take them from you, even if just for a while, to let you have a little relief. Your husband and doggie will be there for you at home, but, I’ll be “rootin” for you from this end! Love, Linda

Helen G aka tea chick says:Oh, Lynn, that sounds horrible! I had been thinking that you had been off the boards for a while and when I saw your pick, I thought “oooh! Lynn’s back!” So sorry you’ve been in such pain, but glad there is an end in sight with the surgery! We will all be thinking of you on Monday and praying for God to guide the surgeon’s hands and laser to heal you. Jesus healed the sick and doctors, nurses, and all the medical professionals do His work whenever they care for us- where would we be without them?
rest and get well soon!
I think we’ll never look at a 9mm bead the same way again

FaeryGoth Chick says:My dear sweet Lynn! I am so sorry to hear that
I hope all will go well and that the doctor can blast them both away. I think that you know that I know what you are going through. I have urinary tract problems too and the stent thing, well I have had that 3 times already so I totally understand you. Do not worry to much about the removal of it. Try to be relaxed because it really helps. You will only feel a short pain when they insert the numbing gel and after that starts working, it is painless when they remove the stent. You will be aware of the strange feeling when it is removed but it will not hurt. Thinking of you! Hugs xxx

Faithful Chick aka Faith says:Goodness Lynn! I will never look at something 9mm the same again. Gracious that must be excruciating. I have a friend I still keep in touch with who is plagued with kidney stones frequently so she and I have had this talk quite a few times. Be praying for your speedy recovery and may they be able to do as many as allowable. Thinking of you. Hugs from Faith in Florida. Sorry you will miss out on meeting Movie Chick Susan. Hang in there.

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Thanks, Nicole! Everything went well — the surgeon was able to blast both stones with the laser. Now I just wait to go back on Tuesday to have the stent removed. I’m still in a lot of discomfort, especially when sitting.
Each day is a little better, though.
