Deb Harding says:Not sure why you’re not happy with this. Its beautiful. You’ve picked out all the colors from the abalone shell perfectly.
Responding to your comment earlier. I’m glad you are feeling better. I also think getting a little dog would be perfect. Little lap cuddlers are such adorable, loving, big hearted friends. The cats will just have to get over it. LOL. Mine did.

foxhill designs vt says:Granny, looks like we were on the same wavelength. I just posted the pick I made last night and our picks look great next to each other.
I agree with Deb. Your pick is beautiful!

Luna Chick aka Coral says:Awesome pick. I’m with you about abalone. I love it but have never used it.

Asia says:Love the pick, you picked the colors perfectly and added some contrast with Peridot

Julie Shane says:I love the pattern in abalone but it can be difficult to work with. It is such a strong presence that it takes over.
I know you and I love anything teal but water colors are rather expected with abalone. I really like the peridot because it can hold it’s own next to the abalone. However… the amethyst and alexandrite are TOO pretty next to that pendant. I bet tanzanite would be awesome too! I used some abalone in my Bling Challenge and paired it with dark green. Striking combo. Can’t wait to share it.

puppychick labratbecky says:Granny, this is very pretty!! I have a terrible time trying to pair abalone with anything but I love what you have done! I think dogs can solve all kinds of nature’s ills
. Get one just big enough to have it be sensitive to your needs. Some of the teacup sizes are so easily hurt that they need to care more for themselves. I would suggest a small sheltie.

OK Jacki says:Granny, you have created magic w your pick. I wouldnt change a thing. Lovely!!! About puppies… Everyone has their fave but my vote is a mini schnauzer. We ve had 3 or 4 in our family thru the years. They r sturdy & so sensitive to their human. We call schnauzers angel dogs cause of all the ‘healing’ their companionship has given to various family members. From helping prevent a suicide, to companion & helper to someone after major surgery, to protection from falls & grief recovery All different family members but so many wonderful dogs & selfless acts, i am forever a schnauzer fan. Sorry for such a long comment. Bottom line, all dogs are wonderful & I know u will find the perfect one for you. Hugs!!

puppychick labratbecky says:Jacki, I alsmost said mini schnauzer.
One of my good friends has had a string of them and they have been real sweeties, too. Shelties are good because they are so smart. Many of the therapy dogs in our hospital are wise little shelties.

Crazy Chick Frida says:Nancy I love how you have drawn the colors from the abalone! Great job
Hope you can buy ur little doggy

Elis Mom says:Beautiful pick, Nancy! The colors are so soft and soothing.
I say a Havanese puppy is the way to go. Small, sturdy, sweet. Soft curly fur that’s more like hair. You can’t go wrong!
Scotties are nice, too!

Granny Chick aka Nancy says:I thank you all for your comments about my pick and in choosing a dog. Actually I applied for a Pomeranian. But I’ve heard nothing. I wasn’t going to get a dog since I had 2 elderly sickly cats that need attention. But then Sammy my 12+ year old Siamese (who came to us as a stray) went out one afternoon and didn’t come back after 2-3 like he usually does.
So I decided with 2 losses to heal, I’d apply for this gorgeous little dog. Wouldn’t you know, the same day I sent in the application, Sammy came home. I’m not sorry he came home but a whole week means he must have another home he goes to. But he’s got a UTI so I had to get an antibiotic for him plus make sure he got his thyroid meds. He also has a bad heart. Sorry….turned this into a book.
On Jan 13, 2013 at 12:47 am #
OK Jacki says:Hoping Sammy is better soon. Take care. The right puppy will come along when the timing is right. Hugs!

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Nancy, this is such a beautiful pick — perfect choices to go with the always gorgeous abalone!
So glad to hear Sammy made it back home to you! Fur babies are just the BEST! We’ve always had toy poodles, so (of course!) that would be my recommendation.
I do agree that the right pet finds you at the right time.

Science Chick Runs Sibes says:Congrats on POD. This is a beautiful pastel pairing with abalone. It takes me out of my box of pairing with dark pearls (like Stormy Blue) and lapis tones. [Hmmm. dark green, hadn't tried that yet, Julie.]

And, like the others, hope your critters are doing well.

L Hethcox says:Fun! Beads AND Pets. I have one cufflink of abalone from my husbands grandad, that needs to be used SOMEHOW. But it’s just an oval cabochen (?) and doesn’t fit the bezels I’ve seen sold, so I’m still debating…but I liked your color choices!
Lee, caretaker to 8 cats (2 part Siamese but I keep aiming for a full one!), 2 rescue dogs, dairy goats & poultry!

Granny Chick aka Nancy says:Oh my Lee, you have me beat by a mile. I have 6 cats and a 7th that won’t come in – lives on the back deck in a box at night or curled up in any sunshine she can find especially if there’s a rug handy.
My Abby is worse again. She has a brain tumor and she’s been on meds and had rallied somewhat but for the past almost 24 hrs she’s not good. Sammy is fine.
Thanks for all the kudos on my pick.

Pug Mom x 2 says:Beautiful pick! Love the colors you have pulled from the abalone.
So sorry to hear of your pet health trials. We just found out our 12 yr old pug is diabetic; so I know some of your heartache. Our younger pug, also a Sammy, is fine.
Can you tell my vote is for a Pug?

Eeka Mouse says:Everything goes with abalone, as I discovered when I made earrings: rectangle of abalone topped w/ crystal rondelle from mixed color strand. All combos looked good- the various colors of xtal pulled out the dif shades in the abalone. Good luck w/ the cats & dogs. Remember tho check for rescues…..

AnnDy says:I very much like your picks, and would love to see the put-together jewel! Have you a photo?
As for dogs, we have a 70-lb. “what?” mix (he’s just beautiful, everyone remarks on it) and a 5-lb female deer chihuahua – guess which is the boss? Both are rescue dogs. The first one found me, my Tucker, sent from heaven when I was suffering from such bad PTSD – he was feral, but learned to trust me as I learned to trust him. I do not doubt he saved my life, and will never leave me though the gate is open. He still comes to wake me from nightmares with that cold nose! He is nothing but love with some skin around it. And our little girl, Betsy (short for Elizabeth Regina I!) is my partner’s sweet and adoring comforter.
It’s amazing what a dog’s love can do; they worship us, and make us want to be what they think we are.
I hope your sweet kitties are better; we had one adorable gentleman Siamese who lived to be 23 and always responded politely to any human’s effort at conversation. But, nonetheless, it’s wonderful to have a dog – and a rescued dog will, I’m certain, get you into heaven if you need an edge! As for me, if they don’t have dogs and cats in heaven, who would want to go?
Good luck and bless you . . .
