“Advent w. Sarum Blue”

Description from ChickyD aka Debra: Some Episcopal churches, such as the church I attend, use Sarum blue instead of purple for Advent. Sarum Blue refers to the colors traditionally used at Salisbury Cathedral.

This is the exact shade of our Advent vestments. We use them the first, second and fouth week of Advent. We use deep rose-colored vestments during the third week of Advent.

What a beautiful Advent pick, Debra! I also was raised in the United Methodist Church, so the info is really interesting to me — thanks for sharing it with us! :D

This is beautiful! I love the rich, royal blue of Lapis!
In church Sunday the sermon was about how Herod didn’t miss Christ’s birth because of lack of information but because he was obsessed with being in control and paranoid with loosing his throne! it was a bit of an “Ouch!” sermon! lol

Chicky D – I learned something from this FP- Not only am I Episcopalian, but I am on the Altar Guild and responsible for making sure that everyone and everything is properly vested. I knew that some parishes use royal blue and others use royal purple during Advent, but I had never questioned the difference.

K H, I first learned about this little bit of history while living in coastal Virginia. My husband and I had year-round passes to Colonial Williamsburg and used to make several visits a year. I always loved going there during Advent and Christmas. The church there used Sarum blue, and I asked about it since I had grown up with purple. Now the church I attend uses the Sarum blue. It’s such a lovely shade of blue.

Which parishes? – The Rector (and several other friends) went to VTS and the Associate Rector is from Texas.
