More about Amber
For thousands of years, the largest source of amber has been the extensive deposits along the Baltic Coast, where it is mined and recovered after heavy storms. One of the most famous uses of amber was in the creation of the “Amber Room” in Catherine the Great’s palace in Russia. This room was destroyed during WWII, but has since been completely restored using newly mined amber.
Our natural amber beads are a deep golden yellow color. The transparency and warm color of these amber beads makes them seem to glow from within. Many of the beads have delicate brown-colored inclusions that provide interesting depth and texture.
Amber is not a rock or a mineral, but rather a very lightweight, golden yellow colored organic gemstone. Amber is tree resin, principally from extinct coniferous trees, that has become fossilized. Most of the world's amber is in the range of 30–90 million years old!
