“An Apatite for Tourmaline”

Description from Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick: Inspired by LB's multi-stone strands. I've used them for a few necklaces with big pendants.

I love the apatite w/tourmaline strands, esp. with amazonite. Yum!!! :-)

Thank you! I thought I had a photo of one of my necklaces, but can’t find it! It’s a great quick piece. Sometimes I’ll use garnet coins with pewter spacers with it.

    Great pick and name!!

Oooohhh, garnets!!! My birthstone, and real personal favorite. ;)
Jeanne, I have been cleaning up my workspace in my studio today, and caught myself thinking “OK, that one is real, so it goes with the other gemstones.” Apparently, in my head, gems and crystals are real, and everything else is not. Do you ever do that?

  5. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jeanne, what a beautiful combo! Love the clever title, too! Great idea about combining garnet with pewter — why have I never done that? Hhhhmmmmmmmmmm Now I will! :D

Happy Chick, I do the same thing when organizing my beads! LOL

I have most of my beads sorted and boxed. And you’re right ~ I do put my crystals and LB CZ in one box, but the glass goes in another. And friends have been giving me “pearls” the find at yard sales and thrift shops… they’re kept separate. LOL

Lynn – I’m loving pewter intsead of silver for some of my pieces to keep the cost down. I found great smaller pewter beads at a the Long Island bead show. plain and “fancy” I do wonder how they’ll wear over time.

  7. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jeanne, that’s sooooo funny — I do the same thing! My crystals are in one box, my CZ in another, FWP are in one box, and glass & Swarovski pearls in another! I even keep my “real” wood beads separate from my “faux” wood ones. ROTFLOL :D

  8. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jeanne, I’ve used good quality pewter a lot (just hadn’t tried it with garnet) and have never had any problems with it holding up to regular wear and tear. :D I’ve been using more pewter, copper, and brass lately — luckily, I’ve always liked them!

I also have gr. flourite separate from all the other green beads. But I did put lapis, sodalite and dumorturite together. (I know I spelled that wrong) Thought about keeping the lapis alone, but ran out of boxes. LOL

  10. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

My train of thought keeps derailing! LOL

I forgot to mention that I LOVE the look of mixed metals in a piece, too!!! :D

  11. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

I’m working on that one. Still getting used to more than 2 beads and 1 metal together.

  12. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

My fluorites are in a separate box, too!!! LOL Normally, I sort by color, then by type, then by size — but the fluorites got their very own box. Tee Hee

BTW, just how anal am I? Hmmmmmmm……..

  13. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

ok – how about this – I found these plastic photo boxes at AC Moore. 5 4×6 boxes fit inside another clear plastic box. Finally got each one labeled.
    so who’s anal now?

  14. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jeanne, I almost forgot to ask how your mini-trip was this week! Also, did you read today’s Fresh Daily Blog? Kevin posted another special!!! ;-)

  15. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

OOOH, Jeanne, is this an anal challenge for beaders? LOL ;-) Don’t think I want to see a Fresh Pick about that!!!

  16. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

Talking about organizing beads. I went to the Canadian Tire Hardware Store and bought the large 60 drawer parts cabinets and have organized all my beads in such a manner that I can go and pick out any bead I want without rummaging through a thousand beads to find what I want. All I have left to do is label them. but I haven’t figured out how to use the Dymo label maker yet. LOL

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

oh no – I got a mental picture I don’t want right before going to bed.

The drive wasn’t bad. Hubby and I had some quality time between Jersey and Connecticut and then I passed out. Coming home I took the ferry across Long Island Sound which was lovely. I got to sit in the sun on the top deck for an hour. Very relaxing!

Larry’s on his way to Illinois. Although he got stuck in Jersey for most of the day because the truck the dealership gave him to use broke down.

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

3k – I figured out the label maker!!!

I seriously considered the parts cabinet, but I carry up and down stairs so I needed boxes that snap shut.

  19. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Sorry about that image, Jeanne. LOL

Glad you and Larry had some time together away from everything, so to speak. :D Sorry to hear he got stuck is Jersey (or anywhere, no offense meant!) for most of the day. :-(

I use a label maker, too!!! I like boxes that snap shut, too, especially after I dropped a divided plastic box and the lid came off and Bob & I spent 45 minutes picking assorted colors & sizes of pearls out of our bedroom carpet. Ah, memories! LOL :D Weeks later I was still finding stragglers in shoes, under the bed……

  20. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

The 45 minutes also included trying to sort them by size once we sorted them by color. Neither was particularly fun. :-(

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

Now with or without that image I should get to bed.

Since he’s headed to Illinois, I have to do his airport run tomorrow. At least i don’t have to leave till about 11:30 am.

  22. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

I just find that it is convenient for me because I have them in a closet off of the living room at the front entrance and the children can go to them and get what they want for their designs. LOL about the dropped box of beads. I did the same thing, except that I dropped it in the kitchen and I had beads throughout the kitchen and the laundry room. He, he. Oh, yes, memories. and no, I didn’t enjoy picking them all up either.

  23. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

That really would be convenient to have them stored like that, Evelyn! No, the picking back up is never fun after a big spill!!! ;-)

Jeanne, this was fun, as always! Good night! :D

I’m going to have to check the bottom of the vacuum cannister before we empty it. I try not to drop the really expensive ones! I’ve also learned that 30mm rose quartz coins and donuts don’t bounce on ceramic floors.

  25. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Uh oh — do they break?

Good night, Jeanne. BTW, that’s called addiction LOL

  29. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

OK, who else does this? Get up in the AM, go to the bathroom, and then go to the computer & check out the LB site! ROTFLOL :D

  30. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

That the normal routine, isn’t it for everybody, Lynn. LOL

  31. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Why, yes, I do believe it is! ;-)

How about checking the LB site right before going to bed — just one last time, just in case……

How about checking the LB site in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep? Oh, wait, you all know that I do that one ALL the time. LOL :D

  32. DOG Chick aka Angela
    DOG Chick aka Angela says:

Wow, you ladies are really organized. I have a 20 drawer sorter and everything is sorted by color! I think I am a little behind here! BTW, great pick and thank you all for the ideas!

Definitely addiction! How often do you see my posts at 5 am?!

    This is my box!

    http://www.spacesavers.com/photokeeper.html

ac moore has them for 14.99. I’ve been using coupons for 40 or 50% off and dragging Larry in with me so I can get 2 at a time.
I like the portability because I don’t bead in one place.

  34. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

So I’m not the only beader who drags her poor, disinterested hubby into the store with her just so she can take advantage of the super savings on that week’s coupon deal by making him purchase something he wouldn’t normally be caught dead carrying around in public? ROTFLOL ;-)

  35. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Just realized that a dead person can’t carry something around in public, willing or not. Sorry.

I just spoke to him – he hopes the truck will be ready by 9 so he can head to Illinois. he’s got 12 hours of driving ahead of him today. And then I think 16 to get back home. :( They’ll owe him big time for this trip!

  38. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Bob is somewhat amazed and bemused that he knows what seed beads and jump rings are. LOL :D And what they are used for!!!

  39. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

OMG — they should pay him extra for this one, Jeanne. Maybe in beads. LOL

  40. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

    oh he’d just love that!

I wonder if there are any shops right of rt 80 that he can just run into? LOL

  41. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Well, it’s not like he’s got the car full of anything else, right? LOL

  42. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

Well – there will be a Harley in the truck bed, but the cab will be empty! Plenty of room! He’s picking up a motorcycle for the ford dealership’s owner’s son who is home from Iraq for 2 weeks. That’s why they didn’t wait for the newer pick-up to come back from being loaned out.

  43. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

See — plenty of room for beads! Now, here’s the crucial question — would you trust your hubby to pick out beads for you? LOL

  44. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

    GOOD POINT!

But he does know pretty – He’s bought me beautiful fine jewelry over the years.

He is much more comfortable in Harbor Freight Tools though!!!

  45. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

LOL Bob is the same way! He has bought me some lovely jewelry for special occasions. But choosing beads…..not sure about that one. Sometimes I’ll show him something I’ve received from LB that I’m really excited about and he’ll just kind of grunt and say “That’s nice.”

  46. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

And I think it upsets him that I can actually disappear in Harbor Freight and find things I can use. He is so much a fish out of water in a bead store. And I’d rather not have him there seeing how much all those little components add up to!

  47. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Isn’t that the truth!!! Bob gets this look on his face that says “All that money for that little bag?!?!?!” I really prefer to go bead shopping alone, plus I don’t like to feel rushed. I like to take my time and savor the experience! :D
