“Any other Diabetic Chickies?”

Description from Bonnie R: This is my life now - Pin pricks in the morning and hope at the end of the Day.
Just wondering if there are other beaders who are Diabetic. Thought it was a safe bet since about 8% of population is. And The older the higher percentage. Thought it might be good to get a support group going for those down days and sharing great news like when you day is all below 140. (100 is normal >140 is not)

I love this cheerful, hopeful pick, Bonnie! Although I am not diabetic, my husband is, and has been for many years now. It was a very scary thing at first, but after a while it got easier to deal with. He does need to be careful to eat properly and (more or less) on time, but his diabetes is well controlled on oral medication. While he doesn’t eat any regular candy or sweets, there’s a lot of sugar-free out there these days (not like when he was first diagnosed), and I have to say that a lot of it is better than the “real thing”! My thoughts and prayers are with you as you adjust to your new lifestyle and your feelings about it. :D

Great pick Bonnie! Hang in there, I can imagine it is scary but you will find your way to deal with this. Your life will be different but change doesn’t always mean worse :-) We will support you if you need us!

Thank you very much. some days the morning finger hurts a lot after being pricked. If the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale hadn’t been written so long ago i would have said that the pricking ones finger on the thorn would have been this. Or was it sleaping beauty? I get my fairy tales confused.

If it’s of any help, it won’t take long before your finger no longer notices the prick. My husband said it was painful at first, but after a little while it was like his finger “got used to it”, and he hardly felt it anymore. I hope it works that way for you, too! :D

Well I had a diabetic dog and I gave her shots every morning. I had to make sure she ate and watched what she ate. I think the biggest issue is accepting the diabetis and learning to work with it to your best advantage to create you new life style. Soon it will be second nature and you may be surprised by how good you feel. nice pick BTW

The pick is beautiful! I’m sorry that you have to go through this but as with Sleeping Beauty the alternative is much worse!! Sending hugs your way!! Hang in there, you can fight this dragon and not just survive but live happily ever after (another Sleeping Beauty reference)!! I think the idea of a support group is an excellent one!!
