“Beading Joins Our Hearts”

Description from Lynn Eileen Chicky LE: There wasn't enough room in the title for all of this ~ I feel that beading joins our hearts and souls together in a very special way, a connection like no other I've ever had. I feel this connection with my real world beading friends and my LB beading friends. It's an amazing, wonderful feeling! Thanks to all of you for enriching my life!!! :D

    This is so sweet, Lynn!!!!!
You said it so well. I just love that some of my “virtual” friends (as my family calls LB) are becoming real world friends too. I don’t have local friends who share my passion, except maybe the people who work in the local shops.

It’s funny what Jeanne said about our virtual friends becoming our real world friends, too. Some of us have been lucky enough to meet in person and, hopefully, more of us will. Also, I talk about some of you so much that my hubby knows your names and what states you’re from! LOL

Mine isn’t as receptive yet – still thinks it’s kind of weird. But the more chicks I visit with….
Plus I guess it depends on how this weekend goes. He did help set up some of my displays. But hates the time this is taking from him. Since I am still teaching full time. In another two weeks I’ll be able to bead and chat while he’s at work. :D

That’s true, Jeanne, soon you’ll have more free time during the day! Hooray!!!

My hubby & I have to “fight” over the computer — I like to be on this site & he likes E-bay, so someone is always wanting to check out the computer! LOL

How are things going for your show at the fair? Are you pretty much ready for it? I’m so excited for you!!! :D

Luckily – I have a laptop and he has his desktop upstairs… and Sam has her own computer too. so we don’t fight over the technology too often.

Every time I think I’m ready for Saturday, I think of something else. Like I really should have a black onyx piece and something with tiger eye. I’ll have to do something simple with them. Still have to print business cards – at least they’re designed. And I have to restring a lovely eagle eye jasper and citrine necklace because somehow a citrine rondelle broke. Can’t figure that one out. The eagle eye is big and should have protected the citrine. oh well.
uh oh – I’m rambling again. Thanks for asking. And if I disappear – I’m working!

  18. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Love your Pick, Lynn. I echo the sentiment. :-)
Jeanne, there really is a point where you are polishing the polish. ;) As to why the rondelle broke, was it under stress from being strung too tightly? If not, it may have just had a tiny hairline crack you did not see before. Aaargh! :P

Harriet – you always have such wonderful words of wisdom and you are so right! I now have an onyx necklace and three pairs of earrings – I guess I have “polished the polish”. lol – It’s my first – I know I’m overdoing it, but I can’t seem to stop.

I think it was a crack. I will restring beacause I think it’s a simple gorgeous combination.

    BTW – definitely not Capricorn – I’m a cancer. I think it’s Type A.

What sweet things to say about the chicks!
And you are so right about them all.
It’s so wonderful to be able to bounce ideas and thoughts about beading with each other. No one else around me here would understand.
SOMEDAY we are going to get to meet each other and man what a day that will be!

And… and thought on being type A, do you chicks think maybe most of us beaders are type A? Because I can so relate to over doing prep stuff. lol!

Thank you Chicky LE for the sweet sentiments!! :-D

  53. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

  54. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Wonder if ALL beaders are Type A/OCD personalities? I know if something I make has the teensiest thing wrong with it (even if I’m the only one who will know), I’ll take it apart and redo it. :-)

  55. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Oh, Lynn. We really are Chicky sisters. You just described me! ;)
Years ago, I learned that I don’t give out any work that I don’t really like. I did a watercolor for my mother-in-law that I was not quite happy with, but I finished it, and it was a birthday present. She hung that darned picture right in her living room, where I saw it every time I came, and saw the flaws every time. When we settled that estate, I scrapped that picture… and kept a neat piece of her needlework as a memento of our loving relationship. I really loved that sweet lady.
The moral for me: never give or sell something you won’t be comfortable seeing again and again…the darned thing will haunt you!!!

  56. Leslie W Mtn Chick
    Leslie W Mtn Chick says:

What a surprise to see this very different type of fresh pick, and what a great message. Bam, it went straight to my heart like cupid’s arrow!!!

  57. Leslie W Mtn Chick
    Leslie W Mtn Chick says:

First of all, I feel like I don’t quite belong because I’m not “chicky” enough, but if you look at personality traits, I surely do. Yes, I want my work to be perfect, but… I want it to be able to be worn different ways and interchanged with other necklaces, or have detachable parts so the same pair of earrings can be used with other necklaces as well. I guess frugal, dual duty designing is my thing. I got hooked on vintaj last fall and its driving me nuts. So now I design necklace pendants which can be used with the same chain and closures plus, I can’t bear to not use “imperfect” stones, my blue calsilica jasper for example, so I find ways to hide the imperfections. So, I guess I fit in even if I’m not “chicky” here. I can’t wait to see the new section in the garden on what people have been making with LB beads, especially the free items!!! Have a great day from the mountains of NC, the very very wet mountains that is.

  58. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Thanks, Leslie! So happy it touched your heart, too! :-)

  59. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Hi, Harriet! Ah, yes — the curse of perfectionism!!! LOL I’m the same way — that’s why I redo so many jewlery projects, whether they’re for me, for selling, or for gifts. It drives me crazy to know that boo-boo is there, even if it can’t be seen! :D

  60. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Hi, Leslie! First, I love to make items that are interchangeable or can be worn in more than one way. For example, a long necklace that can also be wrapped around the neck 2-3 times, or a long seed-beaded necklace that can be wrapped around the wrist multiple times for a bracelet, or pendants that can be removed to give a necklace a different look.

Second, Chickiness is a state of mind!!! LOL These are just Chick nicknames that have been given to those of us who have known each other awhile. Anita/Funny Chick is the annointor of names and CAS/Chicky Babe is the keeper of the list of names. It’s all just in good fun — everybody belongs and is a part of the fun family here at LB! :D If you’re interested in getting a Chick name, just let anyone of us know! :D

  61. Cuban Queen Crazy Chick
    Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:

Lynn, what a great sentiment! I think it’s true that we beaders all have a common unspoken understanding of sorts, maybe it’s the creative thing…idk. I’m laughing at some of the comments right now because I am a Capricorn, too and definitely can relate to that obsessive-perfectionism thing you were talking about. It drives me nuts!! And Leslie, you shouldn’t feel left out at all, as there is nothing to be left out OF! That whole chick name thing, it started out as a silly nicknaming thing and that’s what it is still. Anyone can have a chick name! And everyone on this site is considered a “chick.” We’re all beaders! :P

  62. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Leslie, I forgot to mention that Donna/Southern Chick is from Fayetteville, NC. Is that near you?

I’m looking forward to the new Design Gallery, too! Wonder what anyone has done with the infamous free peach pits? LOL ;-)

  63. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE

Thanks for your sweet comments! So glad you liked the pick, Ivy! :D

  64. Leslie W Mtn Chick
    Leslie W Mtn Chick says:

Thanks for the “chick” definitions!! I knew I belonged, somehow I just knew, although I am a taurus, which could be worse!!!

  65. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Ivy, are you a sister Capricorn, too?

  66. Leslie W Mtn Chick
    Leslie W Mtn Chick says:

There’s a little time delay here. I live in Newland, NC which is at the base of fabulous Grandfather Mountain, home of the mile high swinging bridge, which really doesn’t swing so much since they strenghtened it somehow, unless it is very very windy or the school kids visiting on a field trip are all jumping on it at the same time. I know just where Fayetteville is. I just read that they have a great arboretum which is on the list of reciprocals in the US. I was just thinking this am how great it would be to host beading getaways at Grandfather Mtn with a nature theme for the beading class offered. I’m not a teacher of beading, but I would enjoy attending something like that. I guess guilds sometimes do something like that, but we have none out here.

  67. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Leslie, the Chick names started during the infamous Easter egg hunt contest this past spring. When I first started on this site in mid-March, I felt very much on the “outside looking in.” Everyone seemed to know everyone else so well. I didn’t even do picks or leave comments. Slowly, I started to do those things and “get acquainted” with the other people here. Before I knew it, I was “Chicked” ! So jump right in and make yourself at home! This is a great bunch of gals!!! Some are here a lot, some occasionally. Some you’ll get to know well, some casually — just like in “real life”. LOL Welcome!!! :D

  68. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

A beading retreat in the mountains sounds heavenly! :D It must be beautiful there!

  69. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Wow!! We are off and running w/new ideas all the time. Wish I could go meet up with other beaders, but living in far west Texas, that is not too likely. :-(

  70. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

OK, then you could have us all come to west Texas for a beading retreat, Happy Chick! Problem solved! LOL ;-)

  71. Cuban Queen Crazy Chick
    Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:

Yes, Happy Chick I am a fellow Capricorn sister, although I only possess one or two “typical” Capricorn traits. (For example, I am NOT good with money!! LOL!) Lynn, my birthday is December 29th, 4 days after Christmas which has always sucked for me!! LOL
Did someone say a bead retreat in the mountains? Heavenly is right!!! Count me in!!

  72. Cuban Queen Crazy Chick
    Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:

Wait, that was confusing – I meant that being good with money is a typical Capricorn trait that I do not possess, like most other Capricorn qualities. That was just one example. Sorry!

  73. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Ivy, I understood your money comment! I’m very good with money — spending it, that is. LOL I’ve always hated having my birthday so soon after Christmas, too. Everyone (except family) always seemed to forget it when I was growing up. It’s better now that I’m an adult, except that it’s a loooong stretch between birthday gifts and Christmas gifts! ;-)

  74. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

And being a Capricorn strikes again, we go back, we edit, we refine…Yes Ivy, you are a Capricorn. ;)
We actually do have mountains here in West Texas, and some nice resort areas like Fort Davis. I have stayed in a B&B there, for a lovely long vacation weekend spent painting and exploring with my sister.
It is dryer, but very pretty. :-)

  75. Cuban Queen Crazy Chick
    Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:

LOL! I know, see?! I just had to go back to make sure I was completely clear in what I meant! LOL
Lynn, I guess that would make me good with money, too!! :P

  76. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

So, ladies, how often did you get the one about : I got you a really extra nice Christmas present, and it is for your birthday, too? When it is my sister who says that, it really is a great present! Sometimes, other people, not so much. ;)
I have a great-niece, w/a January birthday, and I always try to get her separate presents. :-) It really does matter to little kids.

  77. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE

  79. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE

I am sooooooooo laughing out loud right now at this conversation!!!!!! ROTFLMAO :D

  83. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

I think it really is the thought that matters, and as a kid I sometimes felt like I might not be worth 2 presents?
Luckily, my folks were really good about celebrating the event, even when there was not much money to go around. Mom would make our favorite cake for the B.day cake, and my sis always helped make me feel like I’m a big deal to her. Presents are nice, but people who show how much they love you are even better. :-)
Mom is gone now, but this year my sis made my special cake for me…angel food w/orange peel icing… and I’m trying to type while I’m all teared up thinking of it. Gotta go, ladies. Be good to each other. :-)

  84. Classy Chick JbyJill
    Classy Chick JbyJill says:

Are Capricorns supposed to be good with money?????????? I was born during the wrong time of the year!!!!!! LOL I am a Capricorn sister, born January 2. I am OCD, but only about certain things….cleaning, not!!!!! I never considered myself to be a Type A personality, but I guess in some areas you could say I am….
This is such a cute pick….with perfect sentiments :) Beaders certainly have a special bond.

    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jill, it so great to have another Garnet gal in our midst!!! I, too, have certain things I am OCD about, but cleaning isn’t one of them. LOL My bead stash, though, is super-organized. Guess I have my priorities straight, don’t I? ;-)

  91. Cuban Queen Crazy Chick
    Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:

Wow, Jill, you sound JUST like me!! LMAO! Yes, I think Capricorns only get OCD about the good stuff!!! Wow, you ladies are really cracking me up today! I’ve been ROTFLMAO for about an hour now, and noticed that the floor could use a good vacuuming, but I will go and do some beading instead cuz like Harriet said, I’ve decided it’s a lot more fun! LMAO!!!

  92. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE

Leslie, the Chick thing isn’t as exclusive as it might appear, trust me! More like a cute way to recognize a group of friends with common interests. I’ve told my daughter to never belong to a “club” that won’t accept anyone who wants to belong, and I won’t do that either. I’m glad you joined in – with or without the “name”! And like Plucky said – Just say the word!

Now, Lynn – thank you for such a wonderful sentiment! I find it amazing that so many of us have bonded this way – and in this place! I have been frequenting Lima Beads since last May, and not until a month ago did I think this was more than a great place to buy beads. How fortunate we are!

It’s funny how I frequently find “myself” in the comments here! OCD, here I come! I just re-strung (with minutes to go till we had to leave) a bracelet I made for a friend. Tiny mistake in bead order, that my family said “So what?” to. It would bug the heck out of me, that’s what!!!

And the messy house – whoa, I bet I’ve got you all beat. Anyone still have Easter stuff sitting out? ;)

  147. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

That was my mom-in-law! She had a schedule – one day for dusting, one for vacuuming, etc! In the early years of our marriage, I remember her asking me what days I cleaned! I was speechless! How do you say “When I can’t see the tables any more.”?! But there wasn’t a mean bone in her body – it was just an innocent question on her part!

  148. Classy Chick JbyJill
    Classy Chick JbyJill says:

Now there’s an idea!! i could just twirl it between holidays! i could handle that… not too much work…

  149. Southern Chickie

Or only turn it 4 times a year…one for each season..Each season could have its holidays represented…A lot less work, don’t you think?

    J Yee smart chick says:

Lynn, thank you sooo much for the lovely and way creative Pick, along with your wonderful message to all of us!!!!!
I’m really enjoying all the many fun conversations here, from OCD and beading to Capricorn tendencies… to “imperfections” in our beading…
I’m a Leo with some OCD tendencies myself… like in choosing beads when I’m at a local bead shop and can see the lil’ beauties in person, hah… I bought a strand of prehnite nuggets recently and pondered over which strand even on the way out of the store…

Leslie W, not to worry, it’s certainly okay NOT to have perfectionistic tendencies or to want your jewelry to be perfect, it’s less stressful that way – I worried soo much about the “imperfections” and errors I saw in my early beading efforts… but noticed as time went on, people who see my jewelry really don’t tend to notice the flaws… let’s just say in regards to wire wrapped loops for instance, if YOU can see my imperfect wrapped loops YOU’RE too close… like a bumper sticker says on an auto rear bumper…

My youngest got a little tackle box one Christmas and then we never went fishing again, so it is still out in the garage unopened and she is now 16! She gets other parts of me, though. I do have to work at it. But now she is the only one at home during the school year, so she gets more of my attention.

Joyce, you’re right about the personal selection! I can agonize over a bundle of strands trying to pick the “best” one! And what’s more important – uniformity of color/shape/size or that one “really gorgeous” bead in the midst of the average ones…

You got it with the perfectionism, too! To quote Adrian Monk “It’s a gift, and a curse.” It’s the reason I have so many un-strung beads, and so many unfinished pieces. I have to get it Just Right to consider it done. So, Leslie – Don’t worry – bead Happy!

    Leslie W Mtn Chick says:

Thanks for including me in your group. How about “Mtn Chick”? As for me and my Xmas tree, mine is four ft tall and my excuse for keeping it up all year long is that I need it to hang all the gorgeous little ornament balls I have beaded and the little beaded stars I made from Sandra Halpenny’s patterns. Right now it is put away, and I don’t even think to make any new ornaments any more.
Ok, here’s my recent experience on “chicks”. I saw hundreds of them in big cardboard boxes in the basement of the 4H building and they were walking all over each other whether they were dead or alive. You folks are much nicer than those chicks!!! I’ve only been in the mtns for about two years now…. I have to share the internet connection with my adult son, actually its his, so I don’t get on at night as much as I like. What do you do when your chinese turquoise chips disintegrate in your fingers while you are working with them? Me, I leave them on the plastic line they came on and use the rest anyway because the color is so beautiful and they look so nice with my vintaj butterfly. I can’t afford to be perfect anymore, I’ve spent my whole life giving up on perfect, but I also couldn’t sell it to anyone knowing it must have -5 on the MOHs scale of hardness.

    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

    Welcome Mtn Chick Leslie W!!!!!
I just read our book. I did put up the Christmas stuff, altho’ I occasionally find a straggler (put those 2 angels up last week), but I told my grandaughter that I LIKE the bunnies out for summer. HA!

  183. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Mtn Chick, have you thought about using the very soft turq. to make a home dec. item for yourself? That way you could put it on a wind chime, beaded drawer pull, tassle on a curtain tie back, etc. so you can see & enjoy it. Too pretty and already paid for, so find a way to use and enjoy! OK? :-) Chicks must be innovative, as well as OCD. ;)

I have not been on a website and interacted like this before!! My next major step is to get some photos to share.
Thanks for the idea Happy chick Harriet, oh dear, I’m not going to be able to remember these long names, so forgive me if I don’t get them right, those were great ideas for using my turquoise. I actually did find a way to use it even though it is very delicate. I strung it using clamshells and a vintaj lobster clasp on each end. I have an interchangeable chain I use with several necklaces, and now I can just attach the turquoise below the part of the chain that bears the wt. around my neck. With Vintaj everything is okay, and now I can use the turq as an additional strand with several different necklaces, that is until it crumbles!!!

  187. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Mtn Chick, we’ll have CAS put out a new & updated list with all the Chicks’ names & first names on it when she gets a chance! It really helps to keep it handy! :D

Welcome Leslie – Mtn Chick!!! Great to have you join in!!

Poor little 4-H chicks, that’s just sad. :(

I would love to see photos of your beaded ornaments! They sound beautiful! Sounds like it could become a passion easily! We have dabbled with beaded snowflakes, but just as a kids craft.

That’s terrible about your turquoise. I had a little fling with e-bay about 4 months ago, and got some, but it’s stabilized. Merchants are really supposed to tell you if their stones are treated or not.

  189. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:
