“Between Shadows and Light”

Description from J Yee smart chick: I just finished reading a fantasy novel named "Lightborn" by Alison Sinclair - it's the second volume in a trilogy - the basic premise is that there's two groups of magical folks - one, the "Darkborn" who can't stand any kind of light, and don't like folks w/ magical powers,
and the "Lightborn" - those who can't stand darkness or shadows, and who DO accept folks w/ mage powers - and yes, they do live side by side... and there's a love triangle, between a guy named Balthasar, his wife Telmaine - both Darkborn, and a childhood friend of Balthasar's, Floria Lighthand - assassin/food taster to the ruler of the Lightborn... very dramatic saga, with lots of society and kingdom politics... I hate to start a trilogy like this one in the middle, and have requested volume one from my local library... well, this one is my Halloween Pick!! :)

    Love the pick Joyce! I think I would read the first book first. It may ruin the trilogy starting in the middle! I am going to have to check them out! Good luck Joyce!

    Thank you Dawn and Alice – I picked the book up from one of the local public libraries, not reading carefully enough to see that this is part of a trilogy, gggrrhh – and so here I am, waiting impatiently for the interlibrary loan of the first volume.

    The characters are fascinating – in the first volume, one of the “Darkborn” – a lady named Tercelle Amberly – shows up at the doorstep of Lady Telmaine and Lord Balthasar’s doorstep, pregnant w/ twins who she had with a Lightborn lord – whew…
    and Telmaine also loves another guy who has mage powers, besides her husband – their names are all so fascinating and ornate…
    and the third volume hasn’t been published yet! :(

    You have very cool contrast in this pick! I like your bead choices!
    It sounds like the light and dark don’t hate each other Too much! ;) lol The book sound exciting but has too much romantic intrigue for me! I like the “(story), they fall in love, get married, and lived happily ever after, the end” kinds! It’s just awful when you start a series and realize that you’ve caught up with the author and the next one won’t be out for a year! So frustrating!

    Karen, Martha, Bella, Kitty chicky and Sarah, many thanks for your comments and questions;
    Karen, the title of the first book in this trilogy by Alison Sinclair is “Darkborn”, and I just picked up my copy from inter library loan yesterday, whoo hoo… now, I guess I’m gonna just be impatiently waiting publication of the third volume, entitled “Shadowborn” for the creepy folks whom the Darkborn and Lightborn both fear – :[

    Kitty chicky I know what you mean about some books having too much romance – it sure makes a difference how the author uses elements like romance – although, despite my descriptions, the story’s more full of the complicated social and political plots, not nearly so much descriptions of the romances… unlike more “straightforward” romance novels… :? :/
