Description from Elis Mom: When I lived in Washington DC, it was my dream to eventually have a Japanese Maple tree in my garden. I realized it wasn't likely I could afford a home in that area, so I figured a Miniature Lace Leaf in a large planter would be just fine outside in an apartment garden. Well, we moved to Florida, and there are no Japanese Maples here. The trees grow into a unique shape, and display the most vivid color change in fall. I DO miss the change of color, and my beloved Japanese Maple Trees.

PPR says:I love japanese maple trees. I have one in my front yard that is red and orange which turns yellow with red tips in fall. You nailed it!

OK Jacki says:Susie, love your pick depicting one of natures more beautiful species. I left two jap. maple beauties at my old garden when we ‘down-sized’ preparing for retirement. I have a two-year old baby out in my new tiny garden, but it has really really struggled this year due to the drought & excessive heat. I’m praying it recovers. I have seen some bonsai maples – perhaps you could find one and raise it… even in FL

Blooming Ideas says:This is such a touching and beautiful pick. At my childhood home my father constructed a Koi pond for my Mom and planted a Japanese maple. It was gorgeous. The tree was very happy where my Dad planted it. They had to leave it behind when they sold the home.

MaryLou says:I love the tree too! My sister has a miniature Lace leaf and she likes to move the pot from one display inside to another outdoors when it is warm.
That tree is gorgeous… So is your depiction!

Crazy Beader says:You have depicted a gorgeous tree – - have seen them turn color in the fall, but alas, they do not seem to grow well in Nebraska either. Great pick and thanks for sharing the story, too.

puppychick labratbecky says:Lovely tribute to a lovely tree! I am in zone 4 and they are rated only to zone 5. My oldest son and his wife just bought a house and since they are south enough to be in zone 5, the first thing we planted for them was a Japanese maple! Elderberry bushes also resemble them in shape and color and can handle different conditions. I have one of those.
