yes, they are blooming too, aren’t they! we have a bunch on the campus I work on – great looking trees – in the fall too. you know though, they’re banned in many communities as street trees. this because they’re over-hybridized to the point where their crotches (where main branches meet the trunks) are too narrow – and water sits in there, unable – to drain, they rot the wood, causing the main branches to just pop off – explode off the trunk …. I have no idea why I just told you guys that……..
Debbi, love the canadian jade w/peridot!!!

Thank you chickies! I didn’t know that about the pear trees Mary…very interesting! That must be something if the main branches just explode off the trunk! Lookout for exploding pear trees! I am SO glad they are still allowed on a main drag here in western MA!

we have them here too in a few communities. they are beautiful. same with ginkos, I think – not for the explosions… but because the fruit is so foul as it rots and slippery underfoot. it’s a litigious world we live in….

Debbi, if you need any other ridiculous tree tid bits, I’m your gal – have another cup of coffee, Mar! I should have a cocktail – don’t listen to me, Little Chickie – it is Sat night, after all.

I like learning new stuff Mary! Keep it coming!
My very favorite tree is the one with the little orange berries. I think that one is banned because of disease. Pretty tree though! Don’t remember the name….mountain ash?

    I do what I can, RubberChicken! :)

truthfully, about 100 years ago, I was a landscape architechture student. I now work in healthcare and have few venues to share my weird tree knowledge – luckily, now I have you guys! Lucky for whom? don’t know – maybe the trees…..
