“Bruno”

Description from Helen G aka tea chick: my Mum's dog, Bruno is having surgery tomorrow to remove a mass in his abdomen. They think that they can get it all and it's probably benign, but they won't know until they open him up. He's an old dog (12) but he's a tough dog- he has been a "tripod" for many years now (when living with his previous family, he got bored when alone at home, so he got out and got hit by a truck and lost his leg) but he still loves to go for long walks.

thanks Linda! He’s a good dog who’s been with my Mum and stepfather through some rough times My stepfather suddenly became mostly paralyzed through an illness (similar to Guillaine-Barre) and has spent the last few years working on moving and walking again. Bruno has been a sweet and faithful companion to both of them-

I just spoke to Mum and she said that Bruno got through the surgery quite well. The vet removed his spleen which is normally about 1 lb. and it was swollen to 6 lbs (!), but it had not ruptured and there was no visible sign of cancer anywhere else in his body. They’ll do a biopsy on the spleen to see if it’s cancerous or benign. If it’s the former, his chances are not good since the spleen does filter blood so it would probably have spread, but so far, everything looks good! He should come home from the animal hospital tomorrow or Wednesday, and they should have the biopsy results the same time.

Bruno came home today from the animal hospital. Mum said he was so happy to see her that his yelps were heard all over the office! He’s under vet’s orders not to get too excited (because of his stitches) but it’s hard to tell that to Bruno! It’s another week before the biopsy results will be back, so we can’t breathe easy yet but we’re hoping for the best. He’s quite energetic and cheerful- probably happy to be rid of that 6 pound thing he was carrying around!

Yea for Bruno! He sounds like he is sure a fighter! Don’t you love it when they say not to let them get excited, etc. I love when the vet says, don’t let the cat go up and down the stairs – yea, right! Pass on my wishes for a speedy recovery to Bruno. Let us know about his results when he gets them

Great news! I just got an email from my Mum and she says that Bruno’s biopsy came back clear, with no signs of cancer! They warn that the diagnosis is not 100% since there might be some lurking that the sample didn’t catch, but he’s probably going to be fine! Mum said he is back to his old self, happy, energetic, and eating up a storm! He gets his stitches out on Thursday, and should get the all-clear to resume all normal doggy activities then!
