Description from Mary S - Sweet Chick: I have always wanted to have my own chickens ever since we moved to our place in the country (6 years ago.)
A friend has offered me a Buff Orphington hen that is sitting on a clutch of eggs right now. If they hatch, he said the hen and chicks are all MINE!! Looking for Easter eggs at LB has put me in the mood to move on this project. Got to get busy building a coop now!. Looks like I've got a big honey-do for my hubby.

Smoky Rose says:cool! our next door neighbors have chickens – I only know the one is a rhode island red, because I recognized the name when they told us. our neighbors give us free, fresh, organic eggs, which is sweet.
my husband wants guinnea hens/guinnea fowl? – they’re hilareous! they run in packs – have you seen ‘em? – and are also supposed to be very good for eating ticks and other nasties in the yard.
beautiful pick! I’m loving the colors in those new picture jaspers.

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Yeah, I’ve thought about Guineas too because we have soooo many ticks here.
My only issue is Guineas are VERY noisy.
We’ll see.
My dad has chickens and he gives us fresh, free range, organic eggs too. They are the best!!

Smoky Rose says:are they loud? I’ve only seen them from a distance – but that running in a pack just cracked me up!

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:They ARE hoot to watch aren’t they?!
HHMM are they loud? Only if they are close by I guess, but they are consistant with their cackling especially when disturbed. I believe they make pretty good day time “watch dogs” because anything out of the ordinary starts them yammering and raising a ruckus. They can fly too and get way up in the trees and high places.

Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Cool! We have 10 chickens. One of them, Ginger, lays light green eggs!

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Cool Nicole! My dad has several that lay green eggs too.
What breed is your Ginger? Is it an Auracana (or something like that)?
Do you have guineas? What’s your opinion of them?

Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:So glad that you explained, cuz I had NO idea what you were talking about!! lol This pick is in my faves, I love all the texture and patterns in this one.

Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Sorry I forgot to answer Sweet Chick! Yeah, I think that’s the breed! We used to have a guinea, but not anymore. But, our neighbor has a guinea, and he stays at our house most of the time. He (the guinea) is really funny to watch, and he keeps the bugs down. I don’t think they’re hard to take care of. However, if you would have a rooster, I’d suggest that you get a female guinea (s), because if you got a male, he and the rooster might compete for control of the females. But that was just our experience. Hope that helps & makes sense
