OK Jacki says:Our sweet grand-dog, Cal, has a big boo-boo. He became ill on Monday. Long story short- he had an very large intestinal blockage of unknown origin! The vet described it as ‘probably an SOS pad or similar steel wool material’. It did a lot of damage before they discovered it. Bless his heart! Long surgery & 4-5 days in doggie ICU. Kudos to the fabulous elite vet team @ OSU Vet hospital for saving our fur-baby. As for baby sister Lily, she is so lonely & sad w/out her sidekick. Hoping he heals well & all can get back to normal.

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Oh, Jacki! So sorry to hear of Cal’s “eating disorder” & his surgery! Sure hope he is feeling better soon so he & Lily can run around together again!
It’s so scary when our fur-babies are sick….
….no fun for them, either.
What a delightful pick to illustrate Cal & Lily! Love the black agate donut playing the roll of “similar wool material”! LOL It’s amazing what crazy things pets will eat — even with a yummy bowl of dog food sitting near by.
BTW, are Cal & Lily in your profile photo, Jacki?

Asia says:Hope Cal will be back and running in no time

puppychick labratbecky says:How scary for you. My daughter’s friend had a dog that ate a string and by the time they realized the pup was sick, it had destroyed too much of her intestine to save her. Cal is one lucky puppy!! Kudos to the vet team! Hope the 2 are back together soon! I see a pair of collars here and some brindle fur.

OK Jacki says:Here are the ‘monsters’…they are Staffordshire Bull Terriers (not Pits). Look like beasts but are absolutely little loveables. Except when it comes to finding inanimate objects (such as SOS pads) to chew on. LOL
I prefer lap dogs.

OK Jacki says:Thanks! We think so…Cal is the big brindle & Lily Bean is the blonde.

Btw, in the thumbnail photo, the snaps on tne leather cuffs look like eyes… was thinking owls….

Elis Mom says:Oh Jacki! I hope thge little one does well!
Dixie ate some string a while back…the vet told me to give her a bunch of bread…it would bind it up. I am so fortunate she was OK.
XO

OK Jacki says:So glad Dixie was ok. Such benign things can do so much damage in the little one’s bellies.

J Yee smart chick says:Jacki,I too am amazed at the saga of Cat, the mysterious black object he ate, and his pal Lily’s concern for him – and ditto about the stupendous work of the vet team who operated in time, sending lots of good wishes your way for his continued recovery to full health,so you and Lily can enjoy his company for many more years to come!!
On Feb 22, 2013 at 11:17 pm #
J Yee smart chick says:Okay, I must be tired, I misspelled your dog CAL’s name, shoulda figured you wouldn’t name a dog “Cat”- my apologies!!
On Feb 23, 2013 at 12:32 am #
OK Jacki says:Thanks all for the love you sent Cals way. He is still not eating on his own. Tomorrow they will try introducing syringes of liquid food. Praying.

Crazy Chick Frida says:Glad that the vets managed to rescue Cal!!! I know the worries when babies are sick. Hugs to furbabies from me and to owner
The pick I love it’s so cool!

OK Jacki says:Update: hooray! Cal is eating today & his ‘system’ has started working. He is also trying to pull out his iv and get out of his crate. I think he’s maybe getting to go home in the next few days. He’s letting the vet techs know, he is ready! So relieved!!

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Jacki, thanks for the update on Cal — such wonderful news!!!
On Feb 28, 2013 at 11:28 pm #
OK Jacki says:Several have asked about Big Cal. He is recovering at home now. Has to remain sedated for about 10 days to prevent tearing of incision, etc. Little Lily Bean won’t let him out of her site. All is slowly getting back to normal.
On Mar 01, 2013 at 12:13 am #
Anna C WonderChick says:So happy to hear that Cal is on the mend. Lily better keep him in line and stop him from eating inedibles!
