Smoky Rose says:Gorgeous, Little Chick, just gorgeous!
For 32″ and/or 34″ inseam jeans, check out Victoria Secret on-line – although, in recent years cost has gone up and quality down – or check out JCPenny.
A sister in tallness! I love it! I’m 6’0″ – long sleeves are a complete joke! I always look for 3/4 sleeves – and there’s more and more of them out there now.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:05 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Thanks! I’m 5′ 7 1/2″ (tallest in my family apart from dad)
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:09 pm #
Smoky Rose says:and you’re still a little chicky – you may well get taller yet!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:09 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Yep!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:09 pm #
Smoky Rose says:not little – rather, a young lady chicky
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:23 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:oh wow i am so envious of your height!!! 5’7 1/2″ seems sooooo nice and tall to me. LOL
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:31 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:lol. Lots of people tell me that! (even my mom)
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:40 pm #
Smoky Rose says:oh, it’s a barrel of monkeys alright, Monica! nothing fits right – people say ‘you’re tall, you can carry the weight’….I have no idea what that sentence means. standing at the counter washing dishes or peeling potatoes, you dislocate your hip from trying to scrunch down to ‘normal sized persons’ counter tops – oh! and shoes – try finding elegant flats!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:41 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:I totally understand the shoes!!! I just end up wearing tennis shoes almost all the time!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:41 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:LOL when my home was built i had the carpenter actually lower my top cabinets by a foot lower than normal just so i could reach!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:42 pm #
Smoky Rose says:I will be an awful house guest, and not offer to do the dishes when I visit you
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:44 pm #
Smoky Rose says:I wore ballet slippers to my proms.
my husband is 6’5″, so I could get away with a bit of a heal for my wedding – but yeah, sneakers, penny loafers, real ‘cute’ stuff.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:45 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:i am four foot eleven. my fiancee is six foot two. my sons who will be 19 and 16 this summer are both six foot tall!!!! we are a sight to see!!! and mary i would never ask you to do the dishes but maybe get something from the top shelf for me!!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:47 pm #
Smoky Rose says:this I can do! – top shelf, get cobwebs from the ceiling (not that you have any) – like the monster from the Christmas cartoon, I can put the star on top of the Christmas tree….
you and your fiance must be adorable together!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:47 pm #
KPJEWELS says:Try being 4’11″ and finding clothes that fit. Try reaching things that ‘normal sized persons’ can. It’s more than a barrel of monkeys chickies. It can be downright embarrassing when you have to ask strangers to reach something for you in a store because they stack things so high. Oh well, we have to live with it I guess. BTW, nice pick. I’m beginning to like the metal more and more.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:51 pm #
Smoky Rose says:oh, don’t be embarrassed Evelyn – not one bit – us tall folk aren’t half as stuck up as people think we are
My mom is petite – and I know, she has as much difficulty as I do shopping for clothes.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:51 pm #
KPJEWELS says:Mrs. Chick – sounds like Mutt and Jeff in your house. Ha, Ha.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:53 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:My grandma asks me to get stuff for her all the time (she’s 4′ 11″)
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:54 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:i am not for sure how “cute” we are. but he is dear to me. like a giant teddy bear! plus he helps me bead what could be better!! lol ohhh and i can relate to having people get things for you. everytime i go to walmart i have to have help and for some reason the men always think i am flirting with them! and i am like no i just want some tide!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:55 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:mutt and jeff is about right!!!!!!! i am laughing so very hard.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:56 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:It’s nice that he helps you bead (hopefully he doesn’t mind you BUYING beads) lol!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:56 pm #
Smoky Rose says:my mom is about 5’2″ – osteoporosis ate soooo much of her spine, so ladies, take your calcium!!!! She was about 5’8″ – which was super tall for her era – so, the poor thing has never had an easy time shopping.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:56 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:ohhhh another thing when i bead i tend to use smaller beads cause the large ones overwhelm my size!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:57 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:good advice mary about the calcium! i am a health nut!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 5:58 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:lol. My mom is a “health nut” so I sorta am too! (although I need chocolate lol)
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:01 pm #
Smoky Rose says:and D too! here’s a tip for all of you – ask your doc to check your vit D levels!
I love the sun – love it! spend my share of time in it – my doc checked mine Dec 07 – why? don’t know to this day – it was my first appt with him, so I don’t know if he ‘saw’ something or does this routinely – my D was sooooo low – so low. It’s super important as it takes the calcium into the bones – it is hugely important to keep away cancers and auto-immune dx like MS, etc – anybody, especially those of us N of the Mason Dixon, get it checked! it’s super easy – a quick blood draw – and easy and cheap to rectify – really, please think about it!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:02 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:oh we all need chocolate!!! i would like to maybe make a “mom” comment here. little chick-you seem to be very much on the top of your game as far as your social skills and yout talent. it is impressive and a pleasure to speak with you on here!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:03 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Are there certain foods you can eat to get D?
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:05 pm #
Smoky Rose says:milk is fortified with D – so is some few soy milks, some breakfast cereals, some cheeses – Mushrooms are one of the few foods where it is found naturally. The medical society recently increased what they believe to be the current recommended daily – and with that, it’s almost a must to supplement. Oprah’s big on this too – she had a whole show shortly after mine was discovered, ironically – and talked about how super common it is in the Northern half of the US in particular.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:05 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Thanks so much Mrs. Chick!!! I really enjoy talking to all the “Chickies” here and making fresh picks, and jewelry!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:06 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:I drink milk all the time!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:06 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:however, NOT mushrooms…
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:06 pm #
M mccallister mrs chick says:good advice again mary! i need to leave the website for the day-i hope everyone enjoys their evening. i am planning on making a necklace this evening. if all goes as planned i will be back in the morning and let you know how it turned out.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:07 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:This has been the most engaging conversation I read to date…I think you’re all just precious no matter your height (I’m 5’2″)!! And it is always an honor to help someone reach anything…and heartwarming for help to be offered…
And as for the blue jeans; try Coldwater Creek – a bit spendy, but good quality and ample length-wise!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:07 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Oooo, can you attach a picture!? Well, I’ll have to leave soon too, NOT YET, so I can go do some things (and maybe make jewelry)…
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:09 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Hi Shannon! Glad you joined us! Yep, this has been a great conversation!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:10 pm #
Smoky Rose says:coldwater creek?! love that store – love the sales in that store
really, now I’ve gotten purses and tops – a couple skirts (love their on-line outlet), but never thought of them for jeans. Thank you, I’ll check it out, Shannon!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:13 pm #
Smoky Rose says:have fun, Monica.
I’m just very passionate about things that can become major health issues, that are easily prevented when we’re charged with the knowledge.
The vit D thing… Calcium… Colonoscopy! – I know, nobody wants to talk about it. I had my first a couple years ago because of a stooooong family history – and weird symptoms we won’t discuss. I’m very ‘young’ for the disease – and yet, there it was – a bad guy, a pre-cancerous polyp. Well, they yanked that puppy out – he’s gone, he can’t hurt me! So easy. Of course it’ll be a constant vigil now, but, so….
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:14 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:Good advice on the vit D!! But don’t exceed the supplement dosage w/o a doc’s recommendation – vit D is not ‘excreted’ like excess vit C! It is, however, NOT possible to overdo chocolate (in my opinion)! My Friend Colette just came back from Brugge, Belgium and brought me some of the BEST truffles!!!YUMYUMYUM!!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:18 pm #
Smoky Rose says:you’re absolutely right, Shannon, Thank you for adding that! – I’m sorry I forgot to. That is exactly right. I’d say, when you’re at your docs next, have he/she check it and advise on a supplement – you owe it to yourselves!
Shannon is also correct on the topic of chocolate overdose – impossible.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:19 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:Mary Smokey Chick – YAY for you! I’m so glad you got that ‘puppy’ taken care of! I don’t mind talking about it – “IT” saves lives! Had to BEG my mother-in-law to go. I took her and, let’s just say that after sitting with her in ther recovery area – well…we’re a lot closer, if you know what I mean!!! You should be Brave Chick!!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:20 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:oops, a couple of typos in there…please to ignore!!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:22 pm #
Smoky Rose says:thanks – but really… I had no choice. My dad passed younger than he should have from the dx. My aunt x 2 (one of mom’s side, one on dad’s side), my grandma again – passed entirely too young – so, when I started having tell-tale symptoms, had to do it. the polyp wasn’t causing the symptoms, colitis was – but you know – part of me thanks the colitis – it got me and my butt moving to get in early and get it checked. Thanks for your kind words, Shannon.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:24 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:btw: Does Shannon have a “Chick” name???
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:24 pm #
Smoky Rose says:eh – didn’t even notice. I’m sure mine are full of typos – but you know, it’s just like talking to your girlfriends – who cares about a typo here – a mispelling there – it’s all good!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:25 pm #
Smoky Rose says:we have to talk to Anita and get her to annoint some new Chicks, I think!
…. a couple of them come to mind!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:26 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Yeah. Where has Anita been? Was she even here today?! She must be REALLY busy!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:27 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Bye for now. I might be on a little later though!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:28 pm #
Smoky Rose says:haven’t seen her all day.
I know she was celebrating Easter yesterday because so many folks were coming in – maybe she’s taking a well deserved rest today from all the cooking and cleaning?…….
I bet we’ll see her tomorrow.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:29 pm #
Cathy H Chocolate Chick says:You are absolutely right about the vit D and over dosing, Shannon. I am a pharmacist and too much vitamin D can be a very bad thing. It builds up in the body because it is a fat soluble vitamin. It can also be gotten just by going out in the sun for 15 or 20 minutes a day. I worry because people like Oprah are touting it so much. And chocolate is one of my most favorite things in the world!!!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:29 pm #
Smoky Rose says:me too – have to say G’night, darlings.
It has been great!
Catch you all tomorrow! be well!
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:29 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:That’s right. Yeah, probably
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:32 pm #
Smoky Rose says:I hear ya, Cathy – I do, but I’m out walking every day in the sun – it is dumbfounding to me how low my score was. We all vilify the sun anymore – look at cutaneous T-cell lymphoma…the current tx includes UVA/UVB therapy. The sun isn’t a vilian – it just has to be respected and enjoyed in moderation.
I’ve talked to lots of folks about getting their D checked and a remarkable amount are coming back deficient – this when breast ca and ms is skyrocketing.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:36 pm #
Smoky Rose says:don’t listen to me. I’m not prescribing, gals. Talk to your docs – please talk to your docs.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 6:49 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:You’re right on the money Smoky Chick! Sun is a natural source and absolutley part of a healthy lifestyle in moderation. But we all metabolize differently – enough for some is not enough for all! You’re wise to share your valuable opinion and experience!
Hi Cathy! My mother-in-law was popping D like candy at one point! Worried me to death – But she gets no sun exposure at all! Melanoma runs rampant on my husband’s side…almost lost him a few years ago, but he’s doing fine now (4 year check next mo. at NCI in Bethesda)…Enough of that…Are you doing a pick this evening or just browsing?
On Apr 20, 2009 at 7:18 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:I’m getting in on the Vitamin D conversation a little late but may I put my 2 cents worth in?
I’m in the sun quite a bit everyday but I was still a little low in Vit-D so my Dr. has me taking a supplement. My doctor recomends Vit-D3 rather than just Vit-D because it is absorbed better by your body. I take it only in the winter. Once the days get longer I no longer need to take it.
On Apr 20, 2009 at 7:27 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Of course you can put your 2 cents worth in!
