Smoky Rose says:for the love of scapolite! I was telling Downy Chick yesterday, day before – I got some of the smaller rounds ’bout month back on BGBM – not sure what to expect, but they were inexpensive enough to try – wow……smokey, warm, rich, goodness – now I want these bigger guys!
That poor tree – we shopped and shopped and shopped – didn’t just pick it up at the first home depot we passed – I wish it would take off a little better – maybe some acid fert would help, since they’re natually an understory forest tree….

Cathy H Chocolate Chick says:Mary, I think you are right about the fertilizer. We had a dogwood (actually a pink one and a white one) but both of them died.
I think because we live where there used to be a cornfield and the soil was too alkaline. Glad that yours is doing well. I’ve been thinking about that scapolite, too!

Smoky Rose says:thanks Cathy – maybe I’ll give that a try, then. She looks fine/ok – I just want her to be a tad happier. They say that American gardeners are inpatiant – we want instant gratification, while the Europeans are willing to wait decades – uh yeah, well…… you know? we should all be so lucky to think we’ll be ’round in decades and decades to enjoy the finished product……
