Elaine aka Belly Chick says:Hi Chicky D, I don’t think it is that hard if a person is in reasonably good shape but everybody has a move or two that they find exceptionally challenging. It really puts you in touch with the different muscles in your body because there are so many isolated movements. It’s great for toning and strengthening your core and sometimes it is like re-wiring between your muscles and your brain; sometimes there are moves that take a long time to get until your brain can figure out which muscles to move. It is also great confidence builder. Up until about 5 or 6 years ago, I would have never dreamed about dancing in public but it is a real rush! I have been very fortunate to find a teacher who explained and broke down the moves in ways I could understand. If you find yourself in a class and start learning a bit of choreography, that’s great fun and good to keep your mind open to different things. Of course all the shiny costumes don’t hurt either!!
I haven’t been able to dance for awhile because of a knee injury and a bit of trouble with my feet but I am anxious to get back into it!
This is me after my very first solo that I choreographed myself!

The picture above was taken after our very first student show that we put on in town (every other show is always out of town) and it was amazing!! I have pretty well made all of my own costumes and this one was made by crocheting paillettes into shapes and attaching the finished piece onto the bra, then doing the same for the hip belt. It turned out pretty good. Thanks for your kind comments!
