When I was a kid they used to do pink and blue or green little chicks. My mother brought 3 home to us kids. I was a freshman in high school. So we were 14, 11, and 8 years old. My 11 year old brother built the pen outside the house. I guess no one ever told him chickens could fly a little. The neighbors dog came over in a rain storm and barked at the chickens until he scared them so bad they flew up out of the back of the pen and the dog killed one. When I came home from school Mom had pened the 2 remaining chickens in the bathroom. Mother didn’t drive so until my grand father came home from work she had no solution for getting the chickens to Grandma’s brother’s house out on a big farm. Henrietta died some how and Henry lived on little banty chicken that he was chasing the regular hens around on the farm. One day as always he got up on the cow water trough and some how fell in and drowned. So sad but that little old rooster had a very long happy life for himself. LOL. I laugh every time I think about my poor mother outside in the rain chasing chickens and dog around the yard. Sorry I just had to share this one.
