“Dragons in the Laboratory”

Description from puppychick labratbecky: I work with the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. When we make slides of these bugs, we use a stain on the slides that causes this organism to fluoresce as a bright gold under a UV light microscope. TB divides in such a way that it "cords" or makes a ropelike structure of bugs tightly sticking together. These cords of thousands of bugs resemble Chinese dragons as they curl and bend. When we have a positive growing culture of tuberculosis we say that we see dragons on the slide.
