“E is for...?”

Description from Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick: You may remember my student - the 6 year old who said I was ugly and that he was going to kill me. Well - he very proudly gave me a gift for the end of the year - a cute necklace from Kohl's. I has a heart charm and an initial "E". As you know - my first name is Jeanne. My last name begins with "S", so if anyone has any ideas what the E stands for, I'm open for suggestions.

How about excellent example of educator. Maybe he learned some tolerance for things…

Aw, still cute though, right? Here he was trying to say he loved you not hated you! I think so many times, we have students who have trust issues b/c of whatever is going on in their lives. They’re afraid to let anyone in.

I love it! That’s exactly what it stands for!

    I like that one Julie!
And Jen, I really don’t think he’s violent. We have concerns about impulse control and will push for testing in Sept. At least Mom’s been trying to work with us.

I missed the original story, but Jeanne, wow!
You must be in the right place at the right time….just for him. He may be a struggle but you have made an impact on that young man’s life!
You never know what goes through a child’s mind but for some reason HE liked that necklace and he gave it to you.
E is for Educator of the Year! :-D
    Go teachers!!

It was funny the 2 days I wore the necklace at school. Everyone noticed the E, but didn’t want to ask what is was for.

E is for Excellent! I agree that you are in the right place at the right time. Poor kid needs real guidance and definitely limits!

I think anyone who ever taught has those memories: the kids we helped and the ones we knew we Could help, if we could just put them in a loving and supportive environment with discipine and proper limits. Sigh.

Jeanne, you obviously made quite a lasting impression on this young boy. Perhaps when he acted out in such a negative way he was just reacting to feelings he had from something going on at home, or was even repeating something he had heard one of his parents say when he/she was angry. After all, they do learn by example — be it good or bad.

He must have been thrilled to see you wear the necklace he gave you! Obviously, he had noticed that jewelry was an important part of your daily wardrobe. The heart part is clear — he grew to care for you. The “E” — I like what the others have said! And who knows? Maybe he just liked the necklace and didn’t care about the letter! It could also mean that you are “everything” to him at school. You are definitely a positive influence on him, that’s for sure, compared to the stories you’ve told about his dad. Wear it with pride and know that you had an impact on him that will follow him throughout his life! :D Hugs!

Thanks ladies – I love all of your suggestions! I was going to cut the E off, but maybe I’ll just leave it on as a reminder. If anything – it’s a great conversation piece. ;)

Good idea, Jeanne, and good point, too! :D

  14. DOG Chick aka Angela
    DOG Chick aka Angela says:

I definitely agree with Lynn Eileen! You should wear this necklace with pride because it represents a life changed. I think we should consider it a “Medal of Honor” and you should wear it every time you think you aren’t making a difference because clearly you do! Great JOB!

So that settles it = the E stays!

I’m going to disappear pretty soon because I’m driving at 4am with my husband. And I thought I was on vacation!

Actually, we’ll only be in the car together from jersey to ct. I have to drive one home. but this way he doesn’t have to pay another driver. Ah – but I like the way you think – I will keep my eyes open for beads!

Totally agree! The E must stay. You will forever remember that young man, and who knows he might grow up and you will hear from him again about how much of an impact you made on his life! Won’t you be proud when you pull out that necklace years from now??? Did you ever read the book Frindle? Kinda reminds me of this.
