Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Lovely pick, Donna! Great transition in your arrangement!

Southern Chick says:Thank you Eileen…I was just a little bored and didn’t want to do schoolwork…

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:LOL – just like the students!

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I wish… Not really – but it is a little frustrating that one said I was mean and ugly today just because I would let him puddle his glue.
This is beautiful! I avoided howlite for so long, but recently got some 4mm’s. It really is a fun, bright bead!

Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Gem Chick, honey, now don’t let the mean little boy hurt your feelings.
The howlite really is pretty.

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:ok – I left out the part where this tiny little 6 yr old boy said he was going to kill me and my assistant.
I don’t think he really meant it, especially when he started hyperventilating because he was crying so hard when I called the principal.

Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:oh dear, you had a DAY!
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:28 pm #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Wow! When I was substituting a few years back, I had to take a @6 yr.old to the principal for threatening the aide w/scissors. The worst part was that when the custodial grandma came to pick him up, she did not seem to think it was a big deal. I will grant you that blunt tip scissors are not much danger, but it is totally against school policy for the kids to threaten the staff or other kids.
Somehow I was not too surprised to learn that his daddy was already serving time. Kind of went with the family attitude I saw them having over several weeks time.

Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Has anyone heard from Bubbly Chick yet about the hearing today?
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:33 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:We’ve got the community liason heading out to the home to speak with Mom again. Unfortunatey I don’t speak enough Spanish to get the point across. I really just think this is an impulsive little boy who needs a bit more structure in his life. Apparently dad lets him watch all sort of inappropriate things on tv while mom’s at work.

Michelle Downy Chick says:Gorgeous pick…Lord, we teachers certainly have to put up with some great stuff, huh? Remind me again why we do it??
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:37 pm #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Had the same problem here. There is sometimes an attitude that “you just don’t understand our culture and I don’t HAVE to speak English.” That does not work when the state and school district have a zero tolerance policy for violence or violent threats. And there were Spanish speaking staff present to explain the situation. What can you do with just a blank return stare?
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:38 pm #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Southern Chick, it really is a nice day to goof off!
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:40 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:We do it for the little girl who looked at me at dismissal and said “I love you” or the little boy who was so upset by our other friend.
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:44 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Indeed…and for the others…you really feel for them…especially at that age…they’re often times a product of their not-so-good upbringing…you begin to wonder how some of them could turn out any other way with the lack of parent involvement they have…
On Jun 08, 2009 at 7:58 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Well that’s it – he was so worried about dad taking out the belt. I guess he should have thought before opening his mouth. I’m really not sure he can help it.
I have another I just want to take home for the summer. I felt the same way about his mother when I had her in 3rd grade. she’s 25 with 5 kids 9 down to a year. She appears to be trying her best, but… And the thing is – he’d probably come in a heartbeat.
On Jun 08, 2009 at 8:10 pm #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Haven’t we all had those kids?, even over 30 years ago when I was teaching Kinder. You look at them, and think, I could make a difference, but…your folks won’t let that happen.
