“For Sue & Her Sweet Bandit”

Description from Lynn Eileen Chicky LE: Our dear Cotopaxie Chickie Sue lost her beloved dog Bandit this week. He was almost 12 years old and had been with her and Bob since they adopted him from the Boulder Humane Society when he was 3 months old. They are heartbroken over his passing. I'd like to send our thoughts, prayers, and Chicky love & hugs to them at this time of sadness.
Bandit was mostly whitish, with black ears and a black mask around his eyes. He also had some black spots on his legs. He was such a beautiful dog with a beautiful spirit! He'll be greatly missed.

Bob has just been devastated – I guess I’ve been too busy keeping his spirits up to get on the LB lately – I know you all understand. My good neighbor Janet lost her Izzy a month before we lost Bandit. Izzy was Bandit’s girlfriend, back when they were young and energetic. I blew up a picture of the 2 of them together when they were younger, and I’m framing one for Bob and one for Janet. See picture attached.
Bob is yearning for that loyal companionship again, and wants to adopt another dog soon. Do you think it’s too early yet? We haven’t even gotten Bandit’s ashes back yet….

It would be a wonderful thing to do, and hopefully a healing process for more than just one soul. Doing rescue and rehab as I do, I see horrendous things, but I also see amazing and miraculous things as well.

We found an adorable girl on the Western CO Border Collie Rescue site. She just tugged at my heartstrings…but Bob wants another male, and one that will be big enough to hold its own against all of our wildlife. We’ll keep looking….

Try to maybe sit down with Bob, explain that you’re worried he might try to imprint Bandits personality onto another dog, which wouldn’t be fair to Bandit, Bob, you, or the new dog. Explain that you should try to go with a dog that, for lack of a better way to put it, “feels” right to you both.

I feel you & Bob have to adopt again when you both feel right about it. For some people, it is the same day they lose their beloved fur baby; for others, it is soon after; for others, it is a longer wait. I do think it is important to let the new pet have his/her own personality and not try to make him/her into the personality of the recently lost pet. Sounds as though you are very aware of that already. Keep me posted on what you & Bob decide to do! Love & hugs to you, Sue!!!
