shucks…. honestly, my brother asked me to make him a rosary….. any stone I wanted. I chose Pietersite (not these exact, of course – uniform 6mm rounds) – and it works, it could go masculine easily – and his name is Peter.

    Southern Chick says:

Amazing! How are you going to make the rosary? with chain or wire-wrapped?

  5. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

chain. I tried approx this time last year for my nephew – and didn’t yet have the skills to make nice, uniform loops. gonna try again.

Smoky…I’d love to try to make a rosary for myself…Was thinking about just getting a kit, but don’t know if that is any easier. What do you think?

I got the crucifix, chain, etc from FMG. It is a lot of intricate hand work – that’s why I couldn’t pull it off last spring. I’m relatively new to beading. I tried, but ended up apologizing and purchasing a rosary for my nephew for his First Holy Communion. If you’re better with nice little loops than I am, go for it! I read where they should be opposite to prevent kinking – ie: (if you know all this, forgive me) on E side of bead, loop would be vertical – on W side of bead, loop would be horizontal.

I absolutely love pietersite and a rosary made from it will be gorgeous! Your brother will love it.
My dad makes rosaries. He and Mom have made over 20,000. All kinds, chain rosaries, knotted, string(for the missions).
I’ve got to practise making wire loops too. Not very good at it. But what I really want to get good at is wrappped loops. I know at lot of you beaders are able to make beautiful ones. I need
a good class to take. Just none here in this rural area.

wow, Mary – I am so impressed! my compliments to your folks! I can only do a few at a time if I want them to look good – practice makes perfect, right? I felt so badly last spring when I gave up on my nephew’s rosary, but that was pre-class, just winging it – not sure how I expected myself to pull that off…
Thank you – I’ll try to post a pix of this when it is finished.

My sister has asked me to, well, “fix” her rosary (it broke), but she hasn’t given me the pieces yet. I’ve not tried doing a rosary yet either, but I told her I’d try. I’m impressed Sweet Chick that your parents have done so many, what a lovely thing to do. Do you have any pictures of them (for inspiration)?

    CAS!!! YOUR BACK!!!
So glad hear from you again.
YOU have been missed around here.

You know, I don’t know if I have any current pics of Dad and Mom. They hate having their picture taken. Gonna have to work on that.
