Description from Elaine aka Belly Chick: My son had been having severe pain in his abdomen for about ten hours, overnight and this morning. We thought it was maybe a bit of a bowel blockage (he thought it was bad gas pains) but after him going to the emergency ward at the hospital, it turns out that it is a stone in his gallbladder and that it was a bit infected. Before we left the hospital, the doctor said they had called in a surgeon so he will likely be admitted for surgery.
I had gallstones and my Dad had gallstones so I know that they can range in color from off-white to greenish-gray and they hurt like the dickens!

Elaine aka Belly Chick says:Thanks so much Sandy, Faith, Debbi and Lynn.
We went to see him after I made this pick and after he had been admitted and right now we are not sure if he will have surgery right away or if they are going to wait for awhile and just keep him for observation tonight. His pain had gone away and he looked and felt much better tonight. Personally, I hope he has surgery right away so he doesn’t have to go through the pain of another attack. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Thanks again for your wishes!!

CAS says:Elaine, so sorry about your son Chicky!
I’ve had gallstones myself, and also had gallbladder surgery to remove said gallstones and gallbladder. It wasn’t bad at all (the surgery, not the gallstones), a same day laprascopic surgery and all better! I hope that they do the surgery, and all goes well. You have all my good thoughts.

Happy Chick aka Harriet says:I have also had this problem and the necessary surgery. I heartily recommend the surgery–and feeling like you are getting you health and your life back.
Very pretty pick for such a wretchedly painful condition.

My Mom had that problem and was totally miserable until her gallbladder was removed. Here’s wishing your son a complete and speedy recovery.

Elaine aka Belly Chick says:Thanks again ladies! I had my gallstones when I was 11 years old so, other than the pain of the attacks, the surgery was nothing. But they cut me from stem to stern because back then, while they were in there, they would rummage around to see what else they could take out. They took my appendix as well. I came home with my gallstones and appendix in jars.
I know that now the surgery is way less drastic and the incisions are much smaller. I am concerned for him though because he is a very big boy so any surgery would be more of a risk. Hopefully this will help him change his eating habits and help him slim down some more!

Elaine aka Belly Chick says:My son was released from the hospital today because his infected gallbladder had settled down some but the surgeon said they will operate next week, either Tuesday or Wednesday, and take the gallbladder as well as the stones, probably because his gallbladder is damaged. The doctor plans on laparoscopic surgery but because my son is a very big boy, they may have to open him up more. I hope this convinces him to change his eating habits.
On Dec 08, 2009 at 11:53 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Good luck with your sons operation!!! I hope they can do it by laprascopy, because Ryan, is doing really good after his appendix, which was done that way!!! Lots & lots of love & prayers your way, Elaine!!
