“Hockey Aunt”

Description from CAS: My youngest nephew (7 years old) has been playing hockey this winter. I try to go to all of his games, and be a "good" "Hockey Aunt", and not embaress him too much.

Cool pick (pun intended ;) ), it looks icy cold and like early morning practices and like warm blue plaid flannel jackets. But it also looks very elegant in a non conventional, you could wear it to a fancy party and every day, kind of way.

Thank you Kitty. It is, pardon me, *&%# cold in those hockey rinks. The last game I went to it was warmer outdoors than in the rink, brrrrrrr. I tried to capture the black on white of the ice, his uniform (blue & black), my coat (brown) and the warming liquids needed to stand around for such a long time. I’m glad it came out so well, I may just have to actually make something out of it.

Christine- I am a hockey mom and spend most of my winter in a rink- both kids and husband play- we are at the rink almost everyday and sometimes twice a day. Hockey just ended- but we will start Spring and Summer hockey in 2 weeks. This pick does capture the ice and coolness of the rinks.

Don’t get me wrong Cathy, I LOVE hockey. I grew up playing pond hockey with my family, both of my sisters played in college, and my brother still plays (just finished winter hockey league, now starting mud league hockey). My nephew shows ALOT of promise, but it’s awfully cold in the rinks if you’re not on the ice as I’m sure you know. Do you play yourself?

I tried it but I am a soccer player and still play once a week. Your sisters played in college- where. Julia is a very good player and has been on the allstar team for VT for the past 2 years. She dreams of prep schools and division 1 hockey. our little guy is also very good- both led their teams in goals this past season. I love hockey too and love watching my family play- I just dress very warmly and invest in a box of hand warmers at the beginning of the season-lol. Its kinda funny when I have them on my ears, face, neck, toes, hands- they should just make them much bigger to cover more body parts. We have our hockey banquet this weekend, last hockey tourney in Mass next weekend, Dennis hockey tourney the weekend after that and then spring hockey starts- it never stops in our house- 24/7/365!!! My husband is downstairs watching a game and Julia is at the UVM mens game- oh well.
    talk soon
    off to bed for me

Cathy, both my sisters played all four years of college (1980′s) before there was Woman’s hockey at the high school level. One sister played for Bowdoin College in ME, and the other played & was co-captain her senior year at Middlebury. As soon as we learned to skate (5-6 years old) we learned to play hockey. I only played pond hockey (not very good, me not the pond or hockey), usually defense (I was good at poke checks). I LOVED, and still do, watching the games. I used to trade the one Dartmouth football game ticket Dad gave me every year for a 2nd hockey ticket.
