Description from Chicky Red-haired Grammy: We moved to London for 2 years in July 2010; last November my husband agreed be be extended to June/July of 2013. Two weeks ago we found out that Chuck's boss has been transferred to London for 2 years. We could be extended even further... we both are desperately homesick for our beloved Minnesota north woods.

Luna Chick aka Coral says:Very nice pick. Sorry to hear you are homesick. I lived in Brazil for 2 years so I understand (a little) how you feel. Crossing my fingers that you are not extended further.

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Hi Merilee! Long time, no chat.
I would ask how you are but I see from your description that life is somewhat disapointing at the moment. I can’t imagine being in your shoes and wanting so badly to come home. Hang in there chickie. I hope you can make the best of it and that the outcome will be all worth the wait. Come home to visit as often as you can. (Maybe a visit home will be vacation for you?) Quite a unique concept….
BTW, I REALLY love your pick! …..great components. It FEELS like home!

Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:Thank you, dear friends. Interesting tax tidbit: my husband cannot be stateside for more than 35 days a year or we owe US income taxes! I will be In CT for a week in May to visit our sone and his family. Shortly after I arrive there, our son is coming over to do a London-to-Bruges bicycle ride for UK charity. My ‘boys’ are training like mad as they ride about 70 miles a day.

Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:A little back-story: Chuck retired in 2000… we designed and built a home on property which had been in my family since 1968 which is on a lake in No. MN. Chuck went back to work as a consultant in California in 2003, starting up a worker’s comp insurance co… that didn’t fly so he went to work for AIG in 2005. We all know what happened there in 2008 (we had an apartment in NYC and I went back and forth between our home and the apartment). Chuck was asked to move to London in 2010… and here we are. We have not spent more than a year total in the home we built. It is currently closed and we have a young man taking care of it and our property. It waits patiently for us to come home.

puppychick labratbecky says:I live in MN and there is no place like home/northern MN! where exactly in MN? I am in St. Paul but have spent time on Lake Vermilion, the North Shore, and the BWCA. Hang in there–maybe you can retire again soon! In the meantime maybe you could take this opportunity to tour Europe on a shoestring. You have a great starting place! And this is a lovely rendition of the North Woods!!

NY Bella says:This is a lovely pick, Merilee! I know “there’s no place like home”, but I can see you’re making the best of the situation. I hope our British “cousins” are treating you well!
PS. You get to see “Downton Abbey” before the US does? Any secrets to reveal or maybe, you’d better not..LOL

Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:We live about 12 miles east of Bemidji, on one of the 100 Long Lakes in MN. Re: Downton Abbey-I watched the first of the second series and did not enjoy it at all… got tired of the women and the story.

Px3 aka Peggy says:What rotten luck for you, homesick-wise! It must be so hard being an ocean and half a continent away from what is dear to your heart. I hope it is worth it, in the long run.

Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:The first time we were here (1998-2000), we lived in Chelsea, 3 blocks off of Kings Road, off of Flood Street. Lovely area but boatloads of money and an attitude to go with it.
This time we wanted to be the other side of London and have a flat in the the Docklands area – east London – about 1 mile from Canary Wharf. Our flat is on the top floor (6th) of a building over-looking Limehouse Basin, which will be a loading point for boat transportation up the Limehouse Link to one of the Olympic venues. Our train line goes out to Greenwich, another venue. We shudder at the noise and commotion and are making plans to head to Scotland.
We met more people our first time in our local pub that we did the entire time we were in Chelsea.
