Description from Vampire Chickie Ravin: So, we rushed to the vet, turns out this is more common than many might think, a dog gets into the trash, eats something bad, it causes an infection in the stomach, which within 24 hours effects both pancreas and liver, then causes neurological issues. Treatment for it is hit or miss, less than a 50/50 chance, and the treatment costs 2 to 5 hundred dollars a day, as far gone as she was, euthanasia was the most humane option. As Doc Lambert was out of the room preparing the shot that would end her pain, she went into a massive seizure, and died in my arms. She had a good long life. She was loved beyond measure. I keep repeating these things over and over to myself. It doesn't help, I sit here, hardly able to see the computer screan through my tears, but I knew this was the one place I could come, where people, no, not JUST people, all of you, my friends, my beading family, would understand and empathize. Thank you all for being the best friends, and family, I have ever known. You are all precious to me, and I love you all with all of my heart. Thank you all, for just being you, the wonderful, and amazing people you are.

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Ravin, my heart is breaking for you and Brian right now. You did the right thing for sweet Chesis, of course, but that doesn’t lessen your pain a bit. Having been there myself with our dogs, I know what you are feeling and wish I would be with you right now to hold you and take away some of your pain. Please know that I’m keeping you, Brian, & Chesis in my thoughts and prayers. Chicky hugs are being sent from me to you, dear friend!

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Thanks for sharing your photos with us, Ravin. What a beautiful girl Chesis was — and look how much she loved you — you can see it in her eyes!
On Mar 30, 2010 at 4:07 pm #
Vampire Chickie Ravin says:Thanks so much Beth, and Lynn. This is so hard, we took such good care of her, and just one, small stupid thing took my baby away. I love all of my animals, but Chesis was the closest to my heart. When I rescued her it was basicly divine intervention. I was driving down a backroad that goes alongside the Saluda River, and happened to spot this drunk redneck swinging a burlap sack around and around over his head, he threw it in the river, then picked up another and began to do the same, then I saw 2 paws and a head squirm their way out of the top of the sack. I slammed on the breaks in the middle of the road, got out of the car, ran down there, cold cocked him without a word, a good solid right hook broke his jaw I’m fairly certan, as well as some of my fingers. Took the sack, went back to my car and drove off, that was 9 years ago.

TJ C says:Please let your tears mingle with mine and accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your babe. May she romp pain-free with joy at the Rainbow Bridge with all of our furkids, from the past and in the future, until we join them once again.

Daisy Chick - Dawn says:I just got back taking my boys for a walk and I am so sorry to read that you lost Chesis. I am crying as I write this. I feel so bad for you. I am so glad you were so brave to rescue her 9 years ago and give her your heart. Please know that I will pray for you both. I wish I could say soething that can take away your sorrow.

Chippy Chick aka Lindys says:Ahhh, Ravin, it’s so hard to lose a beloved pet and a major part of the family. I’ve lost 7 fuzzy friends (3 dogs, 3 kitties and 1 bunny) over the past 35 years and it never gets any easier. Just know that my heart is with you.

AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:Ravin, I am so, so sorry for your loss. My cat Olik died in my hands at the vet clinic too. 2 years and 3 month ago, right before Christmas… He was 14, beautiful large cat and a sweetheart. He had stomach cancer and even though we where offered a surgery and a chemo for him we turned it down as it was cruel to him in my book and also we would not be able to afford it. But, he had a good life and we loved him very much.
Hugs,
Julia

Sarah aka iamhydrogen says:Ravin, I am so so sorry to hear about your loss. I am literally crying right now. I know (as I’m sure so many here do) the deep sadness of saying goodbye to a best friend like your doggie. I also understand the shock of the quick good-bye. My cat Gus was 100% fine, and then one day I came home and he couldn’t walk. Long story short, a stroke or series of strokes/clots had damaged his organs beyond repair, so we had to say goodbye. Not sure what’s worse – a long drawn-out illness or a sudden loss.
I have lost some very close family members, and I’ll say that honestly, losing Gus was harder. He came to me in a “divine intervention” situation too, when I was at a rock-bottom point in my life. He became my best friend when I felt totally alone. Even though it doesn’t stop the pain, it IS important to remind yourself that she had a WONDERFUL life with you. You loved her and she loved you, and your heart is fuller because of that!!!
You are in my thoughts & prayers. I pray that you can have some sense of peace during your grief. I truly believe that Chesis is pain-free and happy now, waiting to see you again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Chicky Bear-Tara says:Ravin…I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a pet friend. Just try to remember all the good times you had and know that he is in a good place and pain free.

Vampire Chickie Ravin says:Thank you Sarah- iamhydrogen (ok, love that nick name
) I think sudden is worse, as there is no time to prepare, and so little to say goodbye. Though any death of a beloved furry child is devastating in its own right.

Luv2bead - Little Chick says:My heart is breaking for you. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss Ravin. I’ve lost so many pets in past years and I know it is hard to say goodbye…especially when it is all so sudden. I’m also SO glad you hear you showed up at the right time and were able to save Chesis’ life and give her many more happy years with you! I’m sure Chesis was glad to be held in your arms until the very end.
On Mar 30, 2010 at 5:27 pm #
Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:Ravin, my heart is breaking for you. I can agree with iamhydrogen in that the pain from losing a beloved pet can be as great as losing a human family member. They truly are your babies, and are totally dependent on you. You gave Chesis the greatest gift, your love and care, and were there for her at the end. I am so sorry for your sudden and untimely loss, and hope you allow yourself to grieve. One day you will find yourself smiling at her memory.
You have also done a great service in warning us of the dangers of stomach ailments in dogs. I learned something today, and thank you for sharing your story.
Love and hugs,
Lori

On Mar 30, 2010 at 5:39 pm #
Vampire Chickie Ravin says:Thank you Little Chick, and Lori. Yah, I never knew that something as simple as getting into the trash (which for alot of dogs is just second nature), could have this horrifying of a result.

Purple Chick aka Violet says:Ravin, my dear friend, I am so sorry to hear about your loss of your beloved Chesis…. I know this is very hard for you… so very hard…. please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers…
please remember how you saved her live so many years ago and that because of you, she had many wonderful years to enjoy life and your love…. she was a cherished furry child…. and she is with you in spirit… great big hugs to you my dear friend….

Helen G aka tea chick says:Ravin, I’m so very sorry that you lost such a wonderful canine soulmate. There are some dogs and cats who we connect with on a deeper level than most, and their loss is very hard, especially when it is so sudden. You gave her a great life, and she gave you a great love. Now it is time to grieve, no easy task since I know your life has been rocky lately, but we are all here for you- (maybe we could come by and lick your face
)
On Mar 30, 2010 at 6:16 pm #
Vampire Chickie Ravin says:lol! Thank you Helen.

KittyMom Linda says:Oh my dear Ravin and Brian – my arms are kind of short, but they are reaching out to you right now. As I sit here typing, Holly is on my lap and she is getting all wet because of my tears. She said to tell you that it’s ok. Chesis knew it was not your fault. She had you with her in the end and that was a great comfort to her. Why, right now she is at the Rainbow Bridge romping around telling all those who came before her that you are still doing your good works with animals. She’ll be there waiting for you and someday – someday – everyone will be reunited! Take comfort in the fact that we are all crying our tears of sorrow for you ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!!!
On Mar 30, 2010 at 6:30 pm #
Vampire Chickie Ravin says:Tank you Mom L. That’s why I got on here, Hubby had to go to work, and I didn’t want to be alone. Whenever I’m on LB, I never feel alone.
On Mar 30, 2010 at 6:31 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Ravin, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Through tears I’m writing this and pray that you will be comforted by her spirit. She loves you still.
Let the tears flow. Let them cleanse you of grief and then hang on to the good memories. You gave her 9 great years. 9 years she would not have had without you.
We’re here for you and you are in my prayers. *Hugs!!*

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Ravin, I’m just checking in to see how today is going for you…..I know there is an empty spot in your home and life right now, but just think of all the other fur babies you have that need you. You were put on that road at just the right moment 9 years ago to save Chesis and look at what a wonderful life you had together! Cherish those memories and remember she is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, happy and strong. My tears flow with all the others, Ravin. My love and hugs are with you, dear friend!
My best friend asked me last week if I felt it is harder to lose a relative or a fur baby. I told her I thought they were both hard, just in different ways, because we bond so closely to our fur children. She agreed with me about that, having recently lost her own fur child.

Wolfkazzy WolfChick says:So sorry to hear of your loss …I too had to rush to the vet with a beloved fur babe, he had total kidney failure and had to be put down…I never got over losing my Apache. I know you have many wonderful memories and she’ll always be in your heart. And you’re right, sudden is worst. I lost Maya a week ago to a heart attack, walked in her pen near midnight..Comanche came to me, but not Maya…all the neighbors heard me scream when I found her and we live in the country…Maya was six yrs old, still don’t understand why she died so suddenly… many hugs to you

Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Ravin I hope that you are being comforted by your memories of you sweet fury baby. I don’t know if this will help you but it has helped me when I have had to face bad times.
“Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.
I am so glad you saved such a precious dog and the both of you share such wonderful times in the 9 years you had her. I am sending happier thoughts to you.
