Mom came to visit this weekend. She said that the DesMoies River Bridge between Keokuk IA and Alexandria MO was closed, so she had to cross the Mississippi and come through Quincy IL.

I’m near Iowa City. Not bad for us here this time. We were close a while back thinking the water would go over the spill way at Coralville Lake, that’s what happenend in 93 and 08. Ames is a mess though, they say as bad as 1993. Wish I could send the rain elsewhere.

I grew up on the banks of the Mississippi, or perhaps, more accurately, safely up a cliff from the water. I remember seeing the Great River Road and Victory Park covered with water. There were no floods during my years in Iowa city. I lived in the Mayflower out on North Dubuque and never thought of the lazy river jumping its banks. Now I live near a levee and I watch the water rise with more respect!
