Description from LAshe: One of my coworkers thinned out her iris beds before the heat got so dreadful, so in the fall, I'm going to be the receipient of free iris bulbs to plant in my yard! I adore purple and green together! :-)

Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Love these colors! If she gave you the rizomes now you should plant them. They will grow and develope roots and be ready before fall. If you wait to plant til fall they may shrivel and dry out. Thought you would want to know! Hate to see you lose them!

Faithful Chick aka Faith says:What a gorgeous pick and I want them all. What a lucky person to receive iris rhizomes. Don’t plant them too deeply and keep them watered. Just remember if they had not been dug up they would have received the same heat and care. They are used to the weather you are getting. Bulbs and things that go dormant except in winter need water and food to replenish themselves at this time so they can bloom the next time. Daisy is right about developing the root system. They loose some of those fragile little things when taken from the soil and that is how the pull in nutrients and water a long with the leaves. I am imagining she has by now cut back the leaves but some don’t, it is not a have to do but the leaves will shrivel away and not be attractive on the iris. I have amaryllis bulbs that in Florida have leaves planted outside most of the year, so I don’t cut them back. If I don’t water them as much they won’t reproduce the flowers next season as well. Just a little seasoned knowledge. (pun intended) te he
