Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:You keep teasing me with those lilacs! You captured them perfectly.
BTW – after some research, I do think the “prehnite” I got locally is the same as LB’s green tourmalated quartz (see your “keep it green” pick from yesterday. I’ll know better when I get my latest order and can compare.

Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Thank you, Glam & gem!!
That would be interesting to see the difference, between the two! The prehnite from L.B. & the tourmalated quartz I have is different! I hope they did’nt cheat you!!!! Was the prehnite you got cheaper than the L.B. price?

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I see LB has african prehnite. which seems to be different from plain prehnite. In one of my bead books it’s called tourmalated prehnite and it looks like the gr. tourm. quartz.

I paid about half more than LB. But local usually does cost more. But sometimes you just have to touch…

Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Yeah! African prehnite is alot different & I know the local stores have a larger overhead!! My tourmalated quartz (which I got somewhere else) is cloudy looking w/alot of the dark spots & streaks. The prehnite in the pic you have linked is very pretty. If you get the quartz from L.B.(which it sounds like your doing) I think the quality will be alot nicer!! Then it may very well match!!!!

Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Kitty, this pick should have been dedicated to you!!!!Thank you!!

J Yee smart chick says:Anita,
Wow, love this Pick, sure makes me think of your lilacs taking their time to bloom…
also fascinated to hear about prehnite, I’ve encountered it at a couple of places as looking much like what L.B. calls “green tourmalinated quartz” with black matrix/spots, one that sells thru their website, the other a local beadshop in my area. my favorite local bead shop carries prehnite that looks a lot like what L.B. calls “african prehnite”, much lighter in green color.
very confusing to me, why the different names?? I’ll have to ask the folks who work at my fav local bead shop and see what they can tell me too, thanks for the link, very interesting!

Anita QoG Funny Chick says:It is confusing! I think I like the prehnite that Gem Chick got! But, I wonder if they’re in the same gem family with, tourmalated quartz, or, maybe they’re one and same??? (just called by different names)

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I’ll post pictures of both side by side when my order comes in. Yes I placed an order yesterday. they got me with 25% off pink tourmaline. And I had grabbed the 4mm g-t-q off the bead machine. mine from the local store are 8mm, so we’ll see if we can do a comparison.

Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Sounds good to me!! I was checking the prehnite on different web-sites, there’s a big difference between, what different people call “prehnite”. I’ve always thought it was just green! (boy, what do I know?) Gemologists, have a stone they call prehnite that’s actually brown???? It just gets more confusing all the time!!! I’m just going to call it what they say it is!!!!
