Description from Smoky Rose: blooming on/about July 4th, in the mid-Atlantic region, they call them a 'weed tree' in my area. they're something of an invasive intoduction from Asia- and pop up everywhere on roadsides.
as 'weeds' go, they are attractive - but another example of a non-native plant gone wild. when ever possible, it is best to choose a native species for your gardens.

Smoky Rose says:morning, Mystic Chick – I’m just signing off for a bit, but wanted to say hi.
Elaine got me rolling late last night after she did a wild flower pick – I started with wild flowers in my area… in case you’re wondering. Catch you later on!

Mommykat Bubbly Chick says:Oh, Smoky we had one of these in the yard when I was little! Always reminded me of Horton hears a Who. I loved that tree! Thanks for the georgous pick, and the Memory!

Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Hi! Smoky, hope you got enuf sleep to make it today. I had a rough nite w/asthma. Typical when fronts blow in…
Love the pick, and love mimosa trees…childhood memory of climbing my grandmother’s tree. We used to twirl the blossoms in our fingers and watch them spin around.
We DO need to plant native trees when possible, but if you literally inherit a mimosa w/your house like we did, you hate to loose it. We may get one more year out of ours w/my husband’s TLC and judicious pruning, but trees have a life span, and carpenter aunts, etc. don’t help!
Hope you have a good day!
Let’s do the wildflower challenge today, as I seem to have been dreaming about it when I woke up. Bad case of BEADS ON THE BRAIN!

Smoky Rose says:Good morning, Ladies!
Thank you Bubbly Chick and Happy Chick! Horton Hears a Who!!! oh my gosh, you’re right! They are pretty trees – I do like them. Like the pink in the summer, when all the other pink flowering trees are all long done their bloom.
Enough sleep? Is there such a thing
Sorry about your Asthma, Happy – my baby brother suffers from that – quite scary at times. (I’m sure he loves me calling him ‘Baby’….. truth is, I often introduce him as my older brother – it gets him so stinking mad! good fun!)
