Description from puppychick labratbecky: I have to tell you ladies (without this being any type of plea for sympathy--ok?) that if I drop off the planet for awhile and seem sort of crabby, it is because I am. We were exposed to a very nasty bacteria in the hospital lab I work in--Brucella for those of you who know what this is. They started us all on 2 nastyass antibiotics which have just wreaked havoc on my system and are doing battle with the other meds I already take daily. Because they are going to be monitoring us for the next 24 weeks, I am being allowed to discontinue taking the drugs unless my immunoglobulins (IgM and IgG) go up which would mean I would be fighting an infection. I am a total bee-yatch right now so that is why I will be disappearing for awhile until I feel human again. Right now I feel a little more like one of those dragons, fire-breathing and everything, and the wolf howling represents what I want to be doing right now--screaming. I just wanted to unload that (ah, I feel so much better already!) to let y'all know why you won't be hearing from me as much. Cheers, ladies! Asia says:Becky, keeping mine fingers crossed that you all are treated only as a precaution, unfortunately it takes weeks for Brucellosis to incubate, so stay strong and positive for those weeks, thank God this is not a “super bug” and the old and well tested antibiotics work well in this case.

The person I really feel sorry for is the patient we got the bug from because he has been sick for months and we only now figured out which bug he has had the whole time. It is not always easy to grow and it only showed up in one out of 8 blood cultures and on the last day!

I know all the LB Chickies join me in saying -kuddos to you and all the healthcare workers who put yourselves ‘on the front line’ to battle disease and keep us all going. I’m not an expert on this bacteria either, but I deal with suppressed immune system constantly because of the drugs I take for my Lupus & Sjogrens. So I certainly feel your frustration and concern. Sometimes the drug side effects are worse than the bugs/symptoms. Glad they are giving you options. So, ditto what Maria said – REST, be good to YOU, let your family spoil you and get better. Sending hugs & prayers. Hope you will be back feeling your upbeat, creative self in no time.
