Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Oh Julia how lovely both the pick and the blooming Iris. My Iris have not bloomed yet, but when they do I will have blues, yellows whites and peach. Cant wait! Your hosta look like it is doing well also.

AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:Thank You, Alice and Dawn
Dawn, I had also whites, corals, pinks, blue-orange… but when we moved 3 years ago and I dig them all up I did not plant them immediately and what you see is the remnants which survived
But!…. I am going to buy all of the colors again!

Daisy Chick - Dawn says:I did that too Julia when we moved, brought my irises and my Great Grandmothers peonies that came with her on the boat! They have been in the family for over 100 years. I Had to Have THEM!
On Apr 27, 2010 at 11:00 am #
AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:Dawn, you may know: my peonies do not bloom fro third year and they have plenty of sun! I was advised to plant one more already in the blossoming stage and plant next to the non blossoming so it will stimulate the blossoms??
On Apr 27, 2010 at 11:28 am #
Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Julia, I have divided my peonies and have never heard of the blooming peonie next to a non blooming one. I do MAKE SURE that they are planted with ONLY 2-2&1/2″ of soil over the top of the eyes in the fall. They are fussy with that. Too deep or too shallow they Will NOT BLOOM. Also if there are not enought “Eyes” it will take longer for them to establish and they may take several years to bloom. I would check to see if you need to replant them this fall. Sun is good as mine are on the souuth side of the house and also in a west exposure. Cut off any flowers that start to seed to put growth in the plant, fertilize, water well but do not overwater. Sorry if this is long winded. Trying to think of everything for you. I can send you an eye or two this fall if you want. Let me know what happens. Oh Yeah, first year of dividing they will show lighter blooms.

Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Forgot o tell you, I have Red, White Light pink and coral peonies.
On Apr 27, 2010 at 12:11 pm #
Daisy Chick - Dawn says:Oh At least 3 Eyes ewhen dividing them, 5-6 is much better. You can move them now but they will pout abit.
On Apr 27, 2010 at 12:53 pm #
AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:Thank You Dawn, it is very informative
They did have the “eyes”, so maybe I planted them too deep… I cannot plant them on the south side, but they are on the East , which have sun first part of the day. I can re-plant them to the West where the sun is scorching most of the day…They should be Red and Pink (if they to ever bloom…)

Chicky Suz aka Susan Z says:Pretty pick and flowers, Julia, lovely!
On Apr 27, 2010 at 1:47 pm #
Daisy Chick - Dawn says:EAst is okay too Julia! As long as they get 4 to 6 hours of direct sun that is what you are looking for. I actually think they don’t mind a little respite from the afertnoon sun. I use a ruler when planting just to be certain. Good luck and let me know how they do if you can remember.

AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:Oh, I will remember, Dawn
We just had a bad storm with large hail
and winds over 60 miles an hour so my flowers do not look well now
Neither my basil…
