Gayla G says:I would love to see how JewelsByJill uses these to make her piece. Since I own quite a few Vintaj items, I am always especially curious to see how others use them. Are you wrapping them around other stones? I’ve seen a couple of design ideas that have done this beautifully but never on a site where you could buy the stone. This seems the perfect forum since then I could “steal” the design inspiration AND buy the stone used to wrap in Vintaj.

Leslie W Mtn Chick says:Gayla,
I am a recent fan of vintaj products, and am frustrated that I don’t have detailed enough measurements of the beautiful pieces used for wrapping. I have made a beautiful necklace with a garden ring, some old brass chain, and my grandmother’s old brass buttons which I am very pleased with.
Here are some brainstormed ideas I have for the above products, definitely not tested!
Garden Filigree – No wrapping needed.
Lay a long, thin chrysoprase spear drop down the center, or any other oval shaped stone or crystal which will not cover too much of the design. Attach the stones with a few seed beads on each side if the stone openings are too far away from an opening on the filigree. Using small, flat stones, like the rondelles, only smaller versions, attach it flat with wire over the tiny flowers at the edges of the filigree. Bring the wire straight up through the back of the filigree, add a seed bead, and go back through the filigree and on to the next section you want to embellish. Small heishi might work well too.
So I’ve mentioned embellishing, and layering, but frankly, I’m afraid to ruin an expensive filigree piece by wrapping with it. Have a great day!

Gayla G says:Leslie, what a great idea!!! If you make this, I really hope you’ll post a photo. I’ve also seen some pics where, prior to wrapping the Vintaj pieces, it looks like they cut them apart, or at least separated different design areas. Like you, I’m reluctant to try this without having just the “right piece” in mind first.

CAS says:Gayla – This is a piece I made using Bronzite and brass (not Vintaj Brass, but antique though). The brass is quite thick and not easy to bend, and it is slightly longer than the Bronzite bead. So having several pieces of it, I slipped a jump ring onto my beading wire and using additional jump rings attached one piece to each side of the Bronzite by attaching it to the jump ring on the wire. I hope this makes sense, and is an idea you can use.

Leslie W Mtn Chick says:CAS, that’s a great necklace. I love the vintage bar across the bronzite and the color scheme is beautiful! I almost didn’t get the full effect of its beauty because I didn’t realize that I could enlarge the picture at first.
So, everyone, click on CAS’ small picture and it will be enlarged and show all the details!!!!!!!
