Calcite is from the Greek "chalx", which means lime. Because this gemstone has only a hardness of 3, it should be used in jewelry in which it won't be subject to much abuse. Orange is one of the many color varieties that calcite, a calcium carbonate, produces. Deposits of orange calcite can be found in Mexico and the United States.
