Really pretty things! I want so many of these! Can’t wait to see your pics!!!

Little Chick, I’m sorry I haven’t posted a nest yet. End of the school year had me running crazy. I will get one started this afternoon, & post photos here too.

Are you done w/ school yet?

  3. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Thanks! It’s okay Dizzy Chick! I’m really glad everyone’s been patient with me getting pictures. Yep! I finished Wednesday. Even when school’s done, it’s been really busy!

    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

You sound like a hardworking gal, Little Chick! Sometimes “vacation” is the busiest time. It’s so easy to overschedule & plan for what you can do when you’re “free”! Just saw your Vegetable Garden, must be a big one! I dream of that someday… :o )

  5. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Yep! Vacation is almost always the busiest time (it almost always includes work too). Yep, we have 2 gardens (both good-sized) and then not to mention all the flower gardens! (I also take care of animals)

  6. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

I saw that in another pick a while back – goats right? Plus others? We’re semi-rural, but no “livestock” type animals. They are wonderful to have around, but it is tough to get someone to take care of them when you’re gone.

  7. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Our “flock” is made up of 3 ancient housepets – 2 17 & 18 yr. old cats, and a 16 yr old dog. Then 2 cockatiels, & we were adopted by a family of cats last fall. They are indoor/outdoor.

    What type of dog?

  10. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

She’s a mix, don’t really know. I found her on inauguration day running in the ruts in the snow. She looks like a white german shepherd, but is only 40 lbs. Has either chow or pit in her ancestry, she has blue spots on her tongue. She’s a tough old girl, and has the nose of a bloodhound!

I saw your Shepherd in another pick! We had one for 12 years, but lost her 8 yrs ago. I could go on & on about her – Mandy. THE most amazing dog I think I will ever know.

  11. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Yeah, it’s terrible when a pet dies. My dog–Poco (a pomeranian/spitz)–died about two years ago at age 15. I was (and am) really sad because he was there since I was born…and I had never lived without him until now… sniff …

  12. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

I’m sorry. He sounds like he was a great companion. Pets can be very much like human family, but without judgment or pretense. They are such a soothing presence too. As time passes, the pain gets pushed away, & the good times will comfort you.

    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Took me a while to find this, here’s our dog Elke.

Your photos are great! Are you involved with 4-H or FFA?

  14. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Yeah, he was great! Whenever people sang “Happy Birthday” at birthday parties, he’d howl along. At least I got my camera before he died, so I have a few videos/pictures of him. (I ended up making a scrapbook for him and all my other pets)

  15. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

He’s adorable!!! No, but I wish I was. I guess mom & dad think it’d be too much work.

  16. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Aw, how sweet! What a personality! I used to have hundreds of pet photos, but now the kids are the major focus.

That scrapbook sounds nice & a great way to remember them. We just have little random “shrines” here & there. Printer’s drawer, photos, etc.

  17. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

It is a bit of work. My kids are in 4-H, but not any of the livestock projects. We are supposed to keep records of everything, but that doesn’t happen too much! We mostly enjoy the friendships made there, and the projects are a close second. Just not too big on the “bookkeeping” end.

  18. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Yeah, I have (and will continue to) spent (d) a lot of money making all of the scrapbooks. (I sure hope they never get ruined). I’ve only ever taken pictures of my animals/& jewelry on my camera and I have around 1,000 pictures (and only maybe 200 are jewelry).

  19. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

I wish I could do 4h (especially with Cheyenne (dog)). I’ve taught her over 30 tricks (including some agility). Most of her “tricks” have to do with obedience.

  20. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Wow! I have never done scrapbooking, it looks too addictive. One affliction is enough for me! There are so many things you can do with them…

Yes, the thought of losing my photos is frightening too. I have many heavy albums filled with photos, and many more tote boxes filled with ones I never got put away! I am lousy at choosing the best ones, so keep them all.

Digital has been a lifesaver for me. I can still look @ them without spending a fortune. Do miss prints though.

  21. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

I’d absolutely hate to lose my photos too!!!! I keep wondering if I should take my “Poco” scrapbook with me wherever I go in case our house catches on fire while I’m away. I’ve been wondering if a safe (sp?) would be fireproof…(I spend a lot of time thinking about these things in bed when I should be sleeping)

  22. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

That’s great! German Shepherds are such smart dogs, and real people pleasers! And having someone to play with & teach her will keep her a very happy pup! I love the soccer ball photo!

Our local 4-H is pretty laid back. There are a few that do the dog project & take it very seriously (shows & all), and some just as a way to learn more about how to work with their pet. You would do well, I think!

  23. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Yes, me too! You can get fireproof safes. I don’t know how much they cost, but dont’ think they are too pricey. If nothing else, photograph the pages on a separate memory card (or 2), and keep THAT with you. Much easier to store! Then you wouldn’t completely lose everything.

Little Chick, Dairy Queen & then movies w/ my kids kept me from posting. Peanut Buster Parfait made just right – lots of hot fudge!

Anyway, here’s the photos I promised.

    1. Pearl loop w/ 2 lengths of wire looped through – roughly 3 ft. ea.

    2. Start making cursive “e”‘s with 1 set of wires.

    3. Use another set & make more loops, weaving into the first set. Work around pearls weaving in & out.

    Attachment Attachment Attachment

  74. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

    4. Keep your loops loose, it’s easier to weave through them.

    5. I use my finger as a guide towards the end of the looping, to keep the wire from kinking.

    6. Finished nest. 24 ga. copper wire on this one.

    Attachment Attachment Attachment

  75. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Last photo of the back. I haven’t attached any decorations yet, or the loop for the bail. It is pretty easy to hide extra wire if you have to add on.! And if it’s too loose, you can always compress it a little with your fingers when you’re done.

Hope this helps! Sorry again to keep you waiting!

Me too!! Hubby declared that we could get “Four small sundaes for $5!” & my heart sank. Luckily our son was the deal breaker, he had a PBP, so I got mine too! Tab was 2x the 4/$5 special, but mmmmm, so good!

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

Lori – the photos are amazing and should be a great help when I finally get around to it. I was thinking about nests for the two moms that have come in once or twice a week all year. I usually give them perennial plants, but now that I’m crafty… (or as hubby says “beady”)…

  80. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Mmmmm! I’m such a creature of habit, & love hot fudge! I’ve been tempted to ask for double fudge & halve the ice cream!

  81. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

Oh, nice! Parent helpers? What a sweet way to say Thank You! Really, it’s not hard. The biggest trick is managing all the long wires in the beginning. I wear glasses, but have had a few close calls. Just don’t get your face into it! Craft copper wire is inexpensive, so it’s cheap to practice too.

  82. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

I’ve also thought about that! I mean, it’s not as good when you have a lot of ice cream left and no more fudge! :D

  83. No Photo
    Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:

I feel so wasteful too, because sometimes I just leave the leftover ice cream! Don’t need to pack on the pounds for something I’m not enjoying!

I guess I’m trying to be a bit frugal.

I also love the picks of Cheyenne!
Especially the one of her herding the goat. I assume she just does the herding naturally? Does she help with moving livestock a lot?

  102. No Photo
    Luv2bead - Little Chick says:

Cheyenne’s awesome!!! Yes, her herding is natural (although I had to train her a little bit). If she’s in with the goats, she never lets them leave the barn, so we don’t let her in, unless we need to move them. Sometimes, the goats escape from the fence, so she gets them back in.

Another thing she does is our neighbor has a guinea and it sometimes fights with our rooster, so Cheyenne breaks up the fights for us.
