oh, thank you. I started doing like a … country style stars theme ….. like here, in the philly area, folks have giant brass stars on their old houses, reminiscent of revolutionary days – but then it started to take on a different feel – maybe I’ll still get to the other one later on…….

  4. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

    ;) I knew what’cha meant – looks nothing like the Rick that I know….. :)

Very cool! Love your color combo! The colors brass piece makes me think of ancient China. intriguing!
I’ve always loved red doors! They look so warm and inviting (like your pick!)! And a house with a log cabin quilt a red “door” at the center of a block meant that that house was a safe house on the underground railroad.

  6. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

is that right?! very cool – I didn’t know that…thank you for sharing that… is that why (forgive – again, would never intentionally offend) that is it… Presbyterian Churches? have red doors? – or Episcopalian (sp?)
    Thanks Kitty!!!

Lovely pick, my favourite perfume too.

  8. Kitty Chicky Cat
    Kitty Chicky Cat says:

There were all kinds of quilt designs that signified a safe house. And since quilts needed frequent airing out a woman could just leave one hanging over her porch railing and her neighbors would think nothing of it.
I don’t know why some churches paint their door red but I would assume it is for a similar reason. “This is a place of safety” kind of thing.

    Smoky Rose says:

I know, it is a good perfune, isn’t it?! :)
such cool info, Kitty – are you a history buff? again, thank you for sharing that – good stuff.

Debbi’s smilin’ pretty! – and what a beautiful smile you have! :)

  32. Debbi aka Sparkle Chick
    Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:

oh dear…I’ve never made necklaces quite that heavy but I have some big honkin’ beads in my stash!

I wonder if the bead holes are large enough if two strands of wire could be used for strength…or if two strands would make the necklace stiff?

  33. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

I was telling the girls last weekend my tale of woe – and 49 strand was suggested – and I think I’ll try two lengths of wire too! It’s the rutilated quartz nuggets – don’t know how heavy it actually was, but talking like 40-ish inches – it was heavy! I’m giraffe tall, so could pull it off wrapped around twice – it’s the one I made for my dinner with my peach of a cuz, Paul. I was mortified – he was a darling, didn’t laugh, didn’t smirk, felt my embarassment and supported me. There are fine people in this world, you ladies, my sweet cuz… they do exist!

  34. Debbi aka Sparkle Chick
    Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:

I’ve never tried 49 strand before…I’ll put that on my list.
I can’t wait until Lima has everything I need. One stop shopping!

I think you have a very sweet cousin! I bet that necklace was a stunner!
I think that what embarrasses US, usually doesn’t phase other people in the least…for me, I believe it’s my own insecurity that does me in! Aren’t we all just a work in progress? :)

  35. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

I ran straight to Michael’s to grab some. Haven’t used it yet – but so help me, before this day is over.
Paul is a darling. It is sooo bittersweet that we have not seen eachother in 11 years. I always looked up to him – he is warm, funny as can be – and a great attitude mentor. I just love that man to bits! So, better late than never – our friendship is growing strong again. (we had lost touch after my dad’s death – he was my dad’s favorite nephew and visa versa…. he took it hard)
We are indeed, all a work in process – we don’t come with an owner’s manual.

  36. Debbi aka Sparkle Chick
    Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:

How wonderful that you have reconnected after all these years! It’s always great to have someone in your life who has know you forever and is a just such a great person…so nice to spend time with someone and end up feeling so invigorated and uplifted after that time together!

Michael’s and AC Moore are it for me here so I keep a running list for small supplies.

    Anita QoG Funny Chick says:

Very PRETTY!!! Love the brass pieces you used!!!

  38. No Photo
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

    This is very lovely!
I’m going to try the 49 strand one of these days. In the meantime, for my heavier pieces I use .018 because it is thicker. And a thicker crimp tube. I also don’t pull it too tight because the beads need room to move around.

  39. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

oh, I know, Jeanne – another bad habit of mine. I’ve always been so afraid to have any wire show – so, they are strung tight, the loop thru the jumpring tight – and the tail of the wire tucked in tight – sure, makes for an attractive, perfect piece for this anal eye – but I’m learning, too brittle, too stiff – needs some room to move around a bit…
    Thank you Jeanne and Anita!!

Very nice color combo! And I love the info about the quilts and the Underground Railroad! We teach about the Underground Railroad at school and always mention the signs to freedom, but didnt know anything about the quilts! Learn something new every day! Thanks Chicks!
