Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Smoky, you’ve been busy! Your necklace is stunning!
You know how some styles of jewelry you just naturally gravitate to? It seems I’m very drawn to yours!!!
I’ve never been brave enough to try a multi-strand necklace yet. Is there a trick to having the stones line up correctly once they’re all attached to the clasp? (did that make any sense?)
And, are all your beads sterling silver and where do you get them?
BTW, missed you a lot lately. Good to have you back!!

Smoky Rose says:Thank you, Ladies!!!!!! much!
I drive myself nuts with this – did and re-did this one a few times over. I’m thinking of devising a tool, a bead strip, vs. bead board – now none of you chicks go patent my idea and make a million!!!
A piece(s) of molding from Home Depot, etc, with 3 or 4 sets of horizontal grooves… can you visualize – I’m thinking this should make lining everything up nicely a cinch..
Mystic, they are ‘more or less’ – I hit up a chain retail establishment, if ya know what I mean… I’m still on husband-induced-Lima-ordering-probation.
Sweet Mary, Once I learn the trick, I’ll let you know
Mary, they’re not sterling, not in the budget right now – thank goodness I’m a sucker for pewter.
Thank you all again. I’m dressed down today to straighten out my ever growing mess of an office, but I think I’ll wear it tomorrow.

Kitty Chicky Cat says:Pretty pick and gorgeous necklace Smoky Rose!! Love it!! Way cool!!
I like your idea also! Leave it to a beader to come up with such an ingenious and helpful use for something from a hardware store!

CAS says:Mare! Welcome back sweetie! How’s Smoky Hen Leona? Did her Friday proceedure go okay? Give her hugs from me.
Now, onto the necklace and this pick, STUNNING! Simply beautiful color combo, exciting design, wonderful to look at & I’m sure gorgeous to wear. Your molding idea is genius!!! I’d include a ruler or mark it so that you’d know lengths (for bracelets) too. I guess I’ll be going to Home Depot.
PS. How are the baby Squirels?

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:SMOKY ROSE — This is stunning!!! Love it all — the pick, the necklace, the colors!!! Now I know why I haven’t heard from you. LOL
Congrats on finishing such a gorgeous piece of art! This will look stunning on you. Hope Smoky Hen Leona is doing well after Fri’s procedure. Have fun cleaning up your office.

Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Cool pick/necklace!
When I do multi-strands I use slide clasps from FMG and I make each strand 1-2 inches longer than the other so they lay right! I’ve never tried to do them where they’re similar in length, but maybe I should!
On Jun 04, 2009 at 12:01 pm #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:WOW! Smoky this is great!!! Love the pick and the necklace is gorgeous! You Rule!
Hope Smoky Hen Leona is feeling well today.

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Thanks for the tip Little Chick!
Now, can you help me out with similar multi-strand question?
When you lay out your beads on a multi-strand bead board, how do you get the strands to hang properly when you’re done?
I made a multi-strand nugget necklace and tried to have the larger beads staggered from the ones in the next strand. It looked great on the bead board but when I put it together the larger beads were next to each other and the balance/proportion was all wrong. (Am I making any sense?)
I did make the strands 1-2 inches longer than the other, still didn’t work.
On Jun 04, 2009 at 12:31 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:I’ve actually never used a bead board! I get what you’re saying! I recently discovered how to make it work (I had tried for years). What type of clasp did you use?
On Jun 04, 2009 at 12:45 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:It was a Southwestern piece and I finished the piece with sterling silver cones and a sterling spring ring clasp.
On Jun 04, 2009 at 12:47 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:OH! and how do you keep your beads from rolling all over the place with out a bead board?
I’d have a mess if I didn’t use one!!lol!
On Jun 04, 2009 at 12:50 pm #
Luv2bead - Little Chick says:Hmmmm…I used cones once on a double strand going into a one strand necklace and it worked fine. Maybe you can try a double strand necklace with a slide clasp (I can’t figure out what could have gone wrong). I sit indian-style on the carpet and bead (I bead in my room, on the floor, and I don’t have any room for a table). My family thinks I look funny sitting indian-style on my floor beading. LOL

Smoky Rose says:Thank you ladies for all of your nice remarks! Smoky Hen Leona is doing well – a little frustrated, which I think is to be expected, but otherwise feeling just fine. I thank you for your concern and beatiful expressions of warmth toward my mom…very touching.
Baby squirrels are getting big – eating solids, running, playing with their litter mates – just precious and hilareous.
Polar Bear is well. Spoiled is what Polar Bear is…. he will be making an appearance to LB soon.
Good to ‘see’ all of you. June and July promise to be busy here at work, but I’m gonna check in whenever I can!
On Jun 04, 2009 at 3:45 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Glad to hear all is well with you, Smoky Rose! Also glad to hear that our Smoky Hen Leona is doing fine, too! Take good care of our Polar Bear for us! You know how he tends to get into trouble when you’re not watching…..

Smoky Rose says:Thanks Chicky LE!

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:The necklace is even more beautiful in person!!!
I’ve tended to stay away from the larimar blue crazy lace (because I’m a snob and I have real larimar from the Dominican Republic – lol). But the nuggets had me fooled. They look a lot like the blue opal nuggets.
