Description from puppychick labratbecky: The Swamp white oak we planted in 2000 is being taken down by the power company for the sin of being 5 feet into the 25 foot easement they own. The tree won't be up to the 50 foot high power line for at least 10 more years but it is being cut down in 2 weeks. I have my own set of comments but they will no longer hold off the inevitable. I am very sad to see it go.

Elis Mom says:Oh Becky, I’m sorry the tree has to go. So sad. Here, it’s impossible to cut down trees like that because they are considered “life giving”. The power company just works around them, no matter where they are. Wonderful pick.

OK Jacki says:Becky, a beautiful pick. So sorry. We have the same ‘tree raiders’ in Ok. Our beautiful pin oak is now ‘one sided’. In our last house they butchered 2 oaks that were 35+ years old. I made a very large sign and posted in the yard as protest, but alas, the tree was still ruined. Susie, I wish we could get your ordinances here (and in MN for Becky’s sake).

N radon says:Inexcusable behavior from the power company !The benefits from the tree are so much needed by all life. If it doesn’t interfere with the powerlines and won’t for years can’t one of the crew make an effort to use a little brain and make a good decision for fresh air. We had a nice big chokecherry tree in our front yard that a company (ASPL…) working for the city just rode right ovear one morning and cut right down. We had to run out and save the huge cedar they started scalping next. I have a secret strong DISLIKE for that company.

puppychick labratbecky says:I know it’s just a tree but I am glad you all understand.
The crew member who came to talk to me also offered to take a 10 year old black walnut off our hands. It is outside of the easement but might grow tall enough to need trimming later. What he said to me was that we will be overrun by squirrels because of all the walnuts. Ok, now think. Me and squirrels. Do ya think I’m gonna agree with this doofus?? I told him to leave it alone because the whole idea for planting all our trees is to encourage wildlife such as we can in our area. I can’t believe there are people who need the world to be sterile. Why would I not want squirrels??????

Stone Treasures says:Gorgeous pick! Sad story! Trees are so important and I don’t understand those that don’t get it! Good luck with your fight Becky.

Luna Chick aka Coral says:Oooh no Becky. I totally understand. We had to cut down a huge tulip poplar last year and it broke my heart. That was our decision and I was sad. I cannot imagine it being a decision someone else made and I disagreed with. So sorry.
