Isn’t the Mexican Sunflower Agate stunning? We are reading tons to educate ourselves about the bee. Since we have also have dogs we put up a fence around the bee areas since the dogs will eat the bees whole.
If we all do what we can maybe we can eat for the next hundred years.

In MN is a program where you can agree to have bee houses in your yard and someone from the Bee Program at the U of MN will come to your yard and maintain them. It’s a win-win-win situation. I am trying to talk Dave into signing up.

This is beautiful Becky! Unfortunately bees, specifically honey bees, are under attack from the environment and a virus.

A really “honey” of a pick! I like the pineapple yellow opal, it catches my eye everytime I go past it. Guess maybe I should pick some up before it’s gone.

Love this gorgeous pick, especially the Mexican Sunflower Agate. We are new to the hobby of raising bees and have two hives so far. Our mailman, who has been raising them and selling raw honey for years, encouraged us to take up the hobby.
I’m hoping and praying ours made it through the winter. The weather has been so severe, and despite insulating the hives, I’m not certain how they are doing. It’s way too early (and still too cold) to open the hives.

Alas, we humans are probably the most to blame for the honeybee population decline (or should I just call it murder?)

the pesticide group-neonicotinoids- has been implicated as well as the overuse of glyphosate (Roundup) used along with Frankenstein-soybeans. There is also a fungicide that kills larval honeybees and the EPA only studied it in adult bees before approving it. Here is a link that should scare the bejeesus out of you all:
