very nice! I like the rich browns with the (insert word)of the garnet and pearls. Don’t laugh – I can’t think of just the right word – maybe “sparkle” hmmm – maybe “glow” is better. anyway – I do like it!

This reminds me of an awesome vocabulary strategy to use with kids. I call it the vocabulary continuum. The kids start with a very common word, like trip. They brainstorm other words or phrases that are more interesting to use… and boy do they come up with some good ones! (or you can teach them how to use a thesaurus) Then you have them rank the words on a continuum of 1 to 6. One being the word trip and 6 being the most interesting word. I use a visual that I keep up in my room and refer to it all the time. I ask the kids to rank an author’s words that he or she uses. Have you ever used the site Florida Reading Research?? I will post it for you :)

    I like glistening!
    We’d call that a tier 2 word!

LB is such an awesome site… first Beading tips and now teaching tips!!!

Love the vocabulary continuum! Just might be a mini-lesson this week for Writer’s Workshop. I haven’t checked out the FRR site in a while. Sounds like I should over the summer.

Ok, I checked out the website and am still lost! This is usually an issue for me too, just ask my co-workers. The words that came to mind for the garnet are “richness” and bronzite is “sparkly”. All in all a lovely pick.
