Smoky Rose says:michelle’s at it again! beauty! don’t know the song, but will google it later
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:27 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Oh Mary, you just gotta…voice like an angel that one…
How are you today Chicky?
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:30 pm #
Smoky Rose says:good, good, thank you – and you?
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:31 pm #
Smoky Rose says:I just love the color pallets you use. you’re using the scapolite again!

Michelle Downy Chick says:Great…the sun is shining at last–beautiful day!
Thanks! Yes, I’m loving that stone…I think I may have to see what the Tuesday lunch specials are and put in another order then!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:35 pm #
Smoky Rose says:sun’s out here too – and it’s in the 70′s already. sadly, I’m gonna be inside much of today as I MUST clean! – but will for sure go out for a walk around dinner time.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:38 pm #
ChickyD aka Debra says:Don’t know the song but LOVE the pick! Sunny mixed with stormy blue clouds and very, very, very humid here. Hey…that sounds like a pick…
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:38 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Ah yes, I’m getting my cleaning done as we speak…heading over to Fenway later today…make sure you do give youself a break!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 12:39 pm #
Elaine aka Belly Chick says:I checked out this song on Youtube and your pick is perfect for it! So very rich!

On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:11 pm #
Smoky Rose says:Michelle, you are quite a sports fan. How was the hockey game last night? I will, not to worry – if a real spark of energy hits, I may get my hair trimmed or do my nails too. I have straight, waist lenght hair – so Cuttery is fine – and good, no appt, and cheap – but if nothing else, will straighten up at home and go for a nice walk thru the park – and I will enjoy that senseless!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:19 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:It was a lot of fun…ooo…I gotta do the hair thing too. I fear it’s hopeless though…I haven’t actually dried it in weeks–I just throw it up on the top of my head and be done with it!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:25 pm #
Smoky Rose says:yeah, not sure if I wear it long & straight because I like or because it’s easy. I have an absurd commute to work, so if it dries naturally in the car, well, that’s a few more min I have for something else – plus, sooo long, it’s easy to damage. but I am getting to the age where I can’t wear it long to much longer now – so, enjoying it while I can;)
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:26 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Michelle Renee, I love Josh Groban.
I haven’t heard this particular song (that I know of) but I just get carried away by his voice.
Lovely colors, lovely pick!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:30 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:These days I’m all for doing whatever’s easiest…women have a habit of spending a lot of time on their outer appearances…I wonder what the lifetime totals of that are…and what we could be doing instead!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:31 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Thanks Sweet Chick…it’s on his Awake album (I’m a little behind the times, so I still buy CDs!)
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:32 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Hey Smoky Chick, who says you get too old to wear your hair long? I have long straight hair too, hangs about to the middle of my shoulder blades in the back.
I’m not a young chick anymore. Got me wondering, do I need to cut it?
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:34 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:LOL Michelle, I had no idea it was behind the times to buy CD’s! That’s all I ever get.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:35 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:No, kidding!!! I keep my hair short now!! But, I am 53, so long hair just pulls your face down!! I don’t wear alot of make-up anymore, got to have time to enjoy the small things & doing things for others when I can. More then 10 minutes getting ready is too much!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:36 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Good Sweet Chick! I teach high school, so I get to see all their fancy gadgets…they giggled when I said I had bought a new CD!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:37 pm #
Smoky Rose says:no mam! mine’s just above my butt! – and on 6-footer, that’s a ton of hair! I shouldn’t say stuff like that, I guess. My friend Mary Ann hollers at me all the time about that….. there was a lady down the block when I was growing up – must be about the age I am now – and she wore the daisy dukes, tube tops, high heels – and had lovely black long hair down her back. I thought her hair was beautiful, but the rest was kinda over the top a bit ‘for that age’ and I guess that makes me a tad self-consious – not that I do the daisy duke or tube top thing – not at this age or even before – too bashful, too…. reserved, despite the way I chat up a storm with you girls!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:38 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Yes Anita, I agree…I had a friend once who it used to take over an hour just to get out the door…and this was after showering and putting clothes on!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:41 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Nothin wrong with the butt thing, you’ve got one don’t you? Right out there for everone to see!! lol… I never did the daist duke thing or the tube top either to modest!! But, I do indeed have a BIG mouth!!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:44 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Anita–you crack me up!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:45 pm #
Elaine aka Belly Chick says:I haven’t combed my hair in years!
I keep my hair very short and I cut it myself with clippers. Sounds rough but it works for me. It’s great because I don’t have to make appointments or spend big money ~ that way I have more money for my hobbies and more time for them too. It is short on top and then tapered to a fine fringe at the front, sides and back. Then I use strong gel and kinda spike it up. (I have to use every trick I can think of to add some height to my frame! Hehehe) I love long hair but I could never have it myself – no body to it.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:47 pm #
RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:Anita, I am 53 also! My hair is really short! I try to grow it out, but then it requires more time to make it look good so I chop it all off again, so I just put gel on and GO!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:47 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Oh lord, what a waste!! My daughter does that, but, she’s also a cosmotoligist, and works at a high-end salon, so she has to keep up with trends!!! The sad part is that she’s really gorgeous already (looks like her dad) so, she does’nt have to do that much, but, still does!!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:51 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:RubberChicken, 53 and getting better!!!!My hair needs shortening right now! it’s starting to look shaggy, & I hate messing with it! so I just let it look shaggy til I get it cut!!! lol….. Not a good look!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:52 pm #
Smoky Rose says:no body here either, Elaine – super straight, super fine – but I do have a ton of it. quantity + length. my dad had that old world, girls should look like girls thing, so my mom wasn’t even allowed to cut mine! – this is probably where the skirt thing and the rest of the girly girl thing came from – anyhow, dad’s gone over a decade, I’m a big girl, I do as I want now. I’m not doing it for him – its just a part of me at this point – but I’m a whisker older than you guys might think….. I wonder if I should cut it and ‘grow up’ I went thru this phase about 10 years back where I got it cut to my shoulders to ‘look more sophistocated’ …..eh, didn’t work
!!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:55 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Beautiful pick! The tourmaline – so Italian. fyi – the song is in Italian. my High school italian is a bit rust but I believe the title means “only for you”
Anita, I know what you mean about long hair at our age. I’ll be 52 in July. I keep it about shoulder length with layers so I can let the curls/waves dry naturally during my 40 minute commute.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:56 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:Mine puffs out no matter what length, especially short (and in the humidity)…don’t know what to do with thick hair…I like the thinning shears, but don’t have the patience to go to the salon often.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:57 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:I’m pretty lucky, my daughter cuts my hair, it’s FREE, even if she does it atthe salon, and she’s a top-of-the-line stylist!!!! My hair is very thick & has a tendency to frizz!!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:57 pm #
Smoky Rose says:you do this with a.d.d., too – makes even me nuts. I can hyperfocus on an outfit in the am – spend STUPID amounts of time wondering if this goes with that – then we have to move into the jewelry – then the eyeshadow…. holy cow! the stupid amount of time I spend – I don’t know how to stop, though. this too, with making my pieces, I make, take apart, re-do, over and over and over – insanity! how do I get anything accomplished?…… yeah – not always a ton gets accomplished – sad, but true
On Apr 25, 2009 at 1:59 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Michelle – what do you teach? I teach first grade. I like my cherubs to be smaller than me.
ps – understand about the humidity. That’s why I layer. I had the greatest curls the other day in the rain – lol
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:01 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:Hey girls, I’m 53 too! Must have been a good year!
Enjoying the hair comments as I always wonder what to do with mine. It’s still as thick as when I was a kid. I used to wear it waist length but it was SO heavy it gave me headaches and it NEVER dried!
Today, a chin length inverted bob. It’s quick and easy.
I LOVE long hair though!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:01 pm #
Michelle Downy Chick says:But Mary–I bet the end result is awesome! Sometimes certain things are worth the wait…I do that with my writing…I never feel satisfied, and I’m surprised I ever finish anything!
Well, off to Boston my Chickies. Enjoy this beautiful day!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:03 pm #
Smoky Rose says:you too, Michelle, enjoy!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:04 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:Oh Jeanne, how I long for a little natural wave and body in my hair. It’s poker straight and baby fine(but lots of it).(Sounds like yours Smoky).
I’m 47 and I don’t know any other way to wear my hair and yet keep it simple. I just wash and go. My sister is a beautician and she says if I cut it any other way, I’ll actually have to do something with it, like style it, put goop in it etc…
Ain’t gonna happen. But I like long hair, so it stays as it is.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:06 pm #
Smoky Rose says:Debbi, I think bobs are adorable! there’s a photo at the Cuttery that my husband says I should have mine cut like – a bob – but when I treated myself to A GOOD haircut once time when I was in New Mexico – and that stylist said I should never go above my jaw,
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:06 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Bye, Michelle. You have a great day too!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:08 pm #
Smoky Rose says:oops – hit submit with my big paw, wasn’t done yet……
yeah, that’s what he said – so, I haven’t – but I love bobs on other gals. when I was a kid my mom wore hers in a page boy – and I thought that was so pretty. kinda like everyday elegance.
because I have an awfully long face that I’d look like a mushroom!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:12 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:Mary, I also have a longish face…keeping the front of the bob at about my jawline works pretty well…and as you know, it tapers to shorter length in the back….very easy ‘do!
Bet Michelle has a fun day at Fenway…it’s gorgeous here in MA today!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:13 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Smoky, it may be because your hair is fine! or maybe the shape of your face! Since your so tall & slender, you may have a longer face. As you get older that changes. I wieghed 98 pds, from age 15 to 23, I’m ,or was, 5’6″ and a beanpole… Now that I’ve had kids, and am in menopause, I wiegh a much better 138 & have filled out!!! So even my face is rounder now!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:13 pm #
Smoky Rose says:see how long and angular the face is – I don’t know…… you guys help, what should I do with my hair?
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:14 pm #
Smoky Rose says:ok, I’m messing with lipstick or something here – so it’s a little more dramatic than usual – but it is one looong face
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:15 pm #
Smoky Rose says:and the widow’s peak! hey! that’s always fun. not!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:17 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:I can’t help with hair suggestions ’cause I’m in the same boat, don’t have a clue.
But I think you’re gorgeous!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:18 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Your hair is up or back in this picture and I think you look GREAT!!! But, if your worried, just cut it to your shoulders or alittle longer!! It will be much easier to dry & comb!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:20 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:You ARE gorgeous! Have a pic with it loose?
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:21 pm #
Smoky Rose says:oh, Mary, you’re a darling! – and I’m sorry, for not liking being the center of attention, here I am again – tell me to just shut up, already!
evidentally, I must like being the center of attention – just don’t like admitting to it! LOL! eh….
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:22 pm #
RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:Wow! Beautiful, you are! I think widow’s peaks are a good thing, you have very classic/classy bone structure. I can’t give you any hair advice, but you are very beautiful!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:24 pm #
Smoky Rose says:am not! stop!
I can dig one out, Debbi, yeah – then you guys could really judge better what I ought to do – gosh, I am …. what am I?…enjoying you guys – that’s what it boils down to. Not gonna get sappy – gonna go dig for a pix
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:25 pm #
RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:It’s like an online slumber party!! Do you really think LB reads all these posts? Wake up, guys!! There are hot topics happening here!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:28 pm #
RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:We should put in &*%#$!! words throughout our blogs so they have to find them and delete them! Bwah ha ha….payback for those hidden eggs!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:29 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:You know Mary, I think there are some internet sites where you can “try on” hairstyles. You upload a pic to the site and click on different styles to try on with your face shape, hair color, etc. Better to try that way than to make a cutting mistake! I’m going to look and report back to you!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:29 pm #
Cathy H Chocolate Chick says:Hi, girls!! Just reading about your hair dilemmas. I, too, have a widow’s peak and my daughter just hates it! She says she would just “shave it right off” LOL. Like that would help. I keep my hair very short and just “comb” though it with my fingers. I am 54 (so many of us are close in age
), but have had it like this for a looong time.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:32 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:This is me, with my hair the way I like it!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:33 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Beautiful Mary! Stunning and dramatic pulled back like that. Thanks so much for being brave enough to put yourself right out there! I’ve found shoulder length or maybe an angle from the ear widens my face a little. Anita should ask her daught the professional.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:33 pm #
Smoky Rose says:shameless, that’s the word. I am shameless.
Cathy, hi!
-told ya’s, not the techiest of beings, I’ll have to work on that pix. all of them I have on the computer are from my wedding or my bro’s – so, they’re all with it up in a ‘do’
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:34 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Oops, Here we go:
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:35 pm #
Smoky Rose says:Anita, I think yours looks great! and I love that you like it – that’s important.
well, if nothing else, a darn good trim is in order for mine – we’ll start there.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:35 pm #
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:I find it hard to accept comliments too.
And then one day someone brought that to my attention.
They said, When someone gives you a compliment, they really mean it. Accepting it graciously can make the person giving the gift feel as good as you do receiving the compliment. That changed my perception of compliments from that day on.
Mary Smoky Chick, accept the gift, enjoy being the center of attention. You are beautiful.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:36 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:Mary I did find a couple of websites for you…the hairstyler.com and dailymakeover.com. could be fun!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:43 pm #
Smoky Rose says:Anita, just looked at your pix again, love it! and that slightly sassy pose, too!
Mary, you’re right. Thanks for that reminder. My mom is always awkward with folks doing favors for her – and so I remind her of something I learned once – that you have to accept a favor or a kind gesture and let the giver receive the blessings from giving. Thanks for straightening me out there. Guess I wouldn’t want to sound conceited by accepting all of your compliments – but thank you. Thank you.
Debbi, I will check that out! Thanks for the extra step there to bring me something!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:44 pm #
J Yee smart chick says:I so can relate to the conversations about hair, I am 49 and will be “the big 5-0″ this year… have seen women go thru so many contortions over hair and makeup over the years!!! my mom asked me what was the deal w/ my long hair, about 10+ years ago on one of my visits home… over the years I’ve had my super straight hair permed, gave that up for simply getting good hair cuts that gives my hair some shaping or layering… had my hair short lately but growing it back out again… I now get my hair cut at a shop in Seattle called “Chop Shop” where the women who do the hair styling all know how to handle “ethnic” hair like mine cuz most of ‘em are also Asian american and a fun bunch of ladies to talk to!!! many of them also quilt and do other crafts, except for beading, they always like to see what I’ve made when I come in for a hair cut… they’re expensive but worth the $$, esp when job hunting…
agree about not spending that much time on fussing w/ our appearance so we can have time for other activities…
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:44 pm #
Anita QoG Funny Chick says:Smoky, you do what works for you!!!!!! That’s all that matters!!!!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:45 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:You are welcome! Play and have fun!
Gotta go for now…I’ll check in later.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:53 pm #
Smoky Rose says:you know what I noticed about Seattle and her burbs, Joyce – like Chicago and her burbs, too – more so than here in Philly – no offense, any other Philly girls – the women are gorgeous! gorgeous! there’s so many awesome little boutiques and salons – and yeah, this is all outside stuff, and it is the inside that counts – but I think they’re closely related.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 2:55 pm #
Elaine aka Belly Chick says:Smoky Chick and Cathy, I like the look of the widow’s peak but I don’t have one so I don’t know how it is to deal with one. I watch NCIS all the time and there is an actress on there has one which I always admire.
I think we spend way too much time worrying about our hair; that’s why I simply got rid of most of it. It isn’t the most ‘in style’ cut but who cares?! I’m 52 and I can do what I want!
Rubber Chick, I have to say that your idea of hiding @*&^%$#@ in the blogs is a hilarious idea!! Hehehe!
On Apr 25, 2009 at 3:01 pm #
J Yee smart chick says:smoky,
love your observation about Chicago and her burbs, and Seattle and her burbs… we do seem to have lotsa boutiques and salons, the smaller ones are often run by women from different cultures, there’s some east african hair/nail shops, vietnamese ones, latino ones… hair’s complicated, gotta have women (and men sometimes) who do know how to handle that cultural group’s hair… and what women tend to prefer…
yep, it’s kinda scary sometimes… the ‘urban yuppie’ profile here that I see is women (and men) under 30 or so, w/ sharp hair, very professional w/ grad degrees and ‘skinny’… that’s one reason I figured okay better go back to school to make chances of my obtaining some decent employment a bit easier… sometimes tricky cuz employers figure older employees cost more…
On Apr 25, 2009 at 3:02 pm #
Smoky Rose says:widow’s peak is ok – thing is, its a cowlick – don’t know how to spell that – rather chat than look it up!
– and so it jazzes up the way bangs hang and stuff – there’s worse troubles to have. I should not gripe about something soooo silly.
On Apr 25, 2009 at 3:18 pm #
RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:cowlicks are tough! anita, I do like your hair, but the picture is so tiny! so are you!! yeah, I was once 96 lbs in high school. Let’s don’t go there!

visited my fav local beadshop yesterday, they were crazy busy, but was great to see some of the beads that L.B. has “in person”, they have some slightly different names, was a bit shocked at some of the prices… will do a Pick maybe… what local shops charge vs. online companies like L.B….
