“The Pumpkin Flood Of 2010”

Description from CAS: Last fall (2010) we had some very heavy rains in the northern Connecticut River valley, and unfortunately for one local farmer his fields were flooded ... his PUMPKIN fields. We watched thousands of Pumpkins floating down the river ... some people fished them out (some even returned them to the farmer) ... some got hung up on the Dam at Wilder Vermont ... and some washed ashore in hidden places along the riverbank.

I was just at a farm stand/country store last night and the owner was telling me that this happened to a few farms in this area, too, because of Hurricane Irene. He said he was one of the lucky ones in his county that still had pumpkins left!

    cool photos, CAS!
we used to go to a pumpkin patch in mid-west Massachusetts when the girls were little. rode the tractor out to the fields and hunted for the coolest pumpkins. they were flooded out so many times they had to close the place.

This is a great pick, thanks so much! In a way the photos are funny, but sad at the same time- some farmer lost a lot of work, there!
