Description from Brenda H: This is a tribute to my youngest grandson, Hunter, who is 11. He plays hockey for the Dallas Stonebriar STORMS. This pick is their colors. They are traveling to Chicago today to play in a tournament. They are undefeated so far.
Hunter is our baby and a wonderful athelete, but most of all, he's a wonderful young man!!! He's beautiful inside and out! Hunter has some learning issues and he works so hard at school. He is tutored year round. He loves hockey and he has to do his best at school to get to play. He is a natural athelete, he can play any sport and does well in all, but school is hard for him. I'm so proud of him! So all you Chicky Moms & Grandparents, cross you fingers with me that the STORMS play hard, have a great time, and hopefully WIN!!!!

also, regarding learning disabilities, I highly recommend an old article from Fortune Magazine called The Dyslexic CEO ( it’s online here: http://money.cnn.com/magazines...../index.htm ). It’s about the many CEOs of major companies that are dyslexic- for many of these folks, it’s a challenge but also entails certain strengths, an ability to see patterns in chaos. Also, having to work harder at the challenging stuff also helps them work better in groups- they’re not arrogant, and they know how to ask for help. My twin brother (who is dyslexic) is a prime example, too!

Brenda H says:You described my Hunter to a tee. We’ve used examples of all the great people that were dyslexic and their amazing accomplishments with Hunter since he was very small. Thanks for the information and comment.

Deb D Grammy Chick says:This a great pick in honor of your wonderful grandson and his hockey team! As well as being the team colors, it probably represents the many bruises the boys get while playing!! Hehe!;)
I was a middle school instructional aide for several years, and worked with dyslexic and learning challenged students. They may have to work harder than other students, but they’re much more appreciative of their education and the strengths they gain in order to learn!
You go, Hunter, both in school and in hockey!!
I know you’ll help the Storms to victory!!

Brenda H says:Poor baby, they’ve lost 2 games!! But I told him there’s another tomorrow. So I’m crossing my fingers & toes, that they win at least one game. But he wasn’t down, laughing and told me what all he’s going to see tomorrow. For an 11 year boy from small West Texas town, all of the traveling he’s doing is truly a great adventure.
