Sali Jo GemsChica Chick says:I can see them all lined up in their little box with the funny lid!

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Great pick, Leigh, for all our teacher Chicks!
I just LOVE a new box of crayons, even now, with their sharp points, so full of promise, and that new crayon smell…..

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I love coloring with my little granddaughter, too! Jenna’s almost 4 and we love to color together! She says to me, “Good job, Grandma!” ROTFLOL

Leigh D says:Lynn – I still like coloring to this day and am always doing this with my neice and nephew! They have these coloring books now that are aimed more at adults that have mandalas, mosaics, and more complicated patterns – what fun! My nephew is very much the color critic – he is always advising me which colors looks better and what he would do if it was him LOL

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:too funny Leigh!
I still have a week and a half before I start back officially, but I met with my 1st grade colleagues yesterday to prepare materials.
And, boy, were they excited when I broke out a few boxes of brand new crayons for us to color with!
It really is a big deal because apparently I hoard my crayons. The PTA provides them and I put them out sparingly. It’s a big joke.
On Aug 28, 2009 at 6:52 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Well, Jeanne, you don’t want just ANYONE touching your crayons, do you? LOL I mean, they might break the points!!! OH NO
I always hated it when I was a child and another child broke the points off my crayons! LOL
On Aug 28, 2009 at 6:53 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Do you hoard your crayons and beads in the same manner? LOL
On Aug 28, 2009 at 6:55 am #
Leigh D says:OHHHH – Crayon breakers were the worst – I always loved the smell and look of a new box of crayons when I was a kid – I almost hated to use them and mess them up!
Lynn – I now hoard sharpie markers – these are awesome for those complicated “adult” coloring books

Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I find coloring very relaxing, Leigh! It’s so funny to color with a small child, because they haven’t learned the “rules” about staying in the lines, colors matching, etc. They just go at it with such abandon and joy!
When Jenna was first allowed to have those big fat crayons, she would very politely give everyone a crayon, even if they weren’t coloring. She would even lay one next to the baby (out of reach, of course) and next to each of the dogs!!! We used to practically die laughing because she would always give the dogs the same 2 colors — Daisy always got the brown crayon and Shelby always got the yellow one! I am LOL as I am typing this because we would all be ROTFLOL each time she did that!!! I’m not sure if it was because she was offering crayons to the dogs, or because she always gave them the same colors, or because brown and yellow (sadly) have such a negative connotation when you associative them with dogs and potty issues…… Dear God, I am laughing so hard right now that tears are rolling down my cheeks…..
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:05 am #
Leigh D says:Lynn – was she matching the crayon color to the color of the dog? Your story is a hoot. The only funny crayon story I have is growing up with my 2 younger sisters. I am the oldest of three and am 4 yrs older than one and 8 yrs older than the other. My baby sister went through a phase where she liked to see what happened to things when you put them in the toilet – books, canned goods, barbies and MY CRAYONS!!! It drove me crazy because I ended up with no pink or blue crayons – we had two bathrooms growing up and one was pink and the other was blue – you can imagine which colors ended up where LOL

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I do not hoard beads ~ well only the really special ones!
But the rest really do have to find new homes.
Lynn – I loved your Jenna story until it went in the toilet, literally. Not a great visual this early in the morning.
BTW – I hoard Crayola markers!
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:08 am #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Oh no Leigh!
another toilet story… Much better visual, though.
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:10 am #
Leigh D says:When I read your last post I thought – Oh No and I just posted another toilet story!
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:11 am #
Leigh D says:Always clean water though – hope that makes it better?
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:14 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:My story did NOT go in the toilet — the crayons stayed right next to the dogs the entire time!!! ROTFLOL
Daisy is black with a little bit of white and Shelby is black/gray with a little bit of tan. Hmmmmmm
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:15 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Leigh, your toilet story is great! Well, except at the time…. But very funny that your sister knew which crayons to put in which bathroom! LOL
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:17 am #
Leigh D says:Lynn – I am dying I am laughing so hard – stayed next to the dogs – I have tears running down my face from laughing!!!!!!
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:18 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:BTW, she always gave me the purple or blue crayon and she used the other. Bob always got the green, her mom always got the red, and her dad always got the black. As you can see, Jeanne, evidently no one in our family is a fan of orange either!!!
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:19 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Jeanne, at what hour are we allowed to start telling “toilet” stories?
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:20 am #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:How come orange always gets such a bad rep?
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:26 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I don’t know, Jeanne — but neither you nor I will be caught dead in it. It’s in my will, actually….
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:27 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:What’s funny is that I think there are a lot of gorgeous oranges, they just make me look like a big pumpkin! LOL
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:28 am #
Leigh D says:I have an aversion to orange simply because it looks putrid on me – I have a friend who wears all the jewel tones – orange included and they look fantabulous on her!!!! I think orange is one of those love or hate colors….
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:30 am #
Leigh D says:I even made a necklace with orange – check out the name in the design gallery Lynn
LOL
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:38 am #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I remember that one, Leigh!!!
I made a lovely orange set. It’s in the gallery too. People pick it, comment on how lovely, drool, etc., but for some reason, I still have it.
On Aug 28, 2009 at 7:55 am #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:ROTFLOL I thought that was the name!!! TOOOOOO FUNNY!!!
Jeanne, I remember that beautiful necklace/earrings set of yours, too. Maybe it will sell this Fall?
