How do you add the “Happy Face” at the end?

  11. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

Hi Lynn Eileen, all you have to do is make sure you have a space after your last letter or punctuation mark and hit the colon, then the short dash and then the right bracket with no spaces between. Make sure you leave a space at the end of those characters before you type anything else. It will look like a sideways happy face until you submit your comment. That should work! :-)

I feel like my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter when she learns something new! She always says, “I did it!” :-) It just shows you are never too old to learn.

  17. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

Yeah, you did it!!! It took me awhile to figure it out. If you have a day when you’re feeling crappy, just use the left curved bracket (or whatever this thing is called)! :-) If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself using the silly thing all the time; but you’ve probably already noticed! :-)

I don’t know of any more here on this site. I was quite surprised when the little yellow happy face showed up the first time ~ I thought to myself…how did that get there? And I don’t know of any other webs sites were it pops up automatically.

    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

OK — thanks again for the tutorial on happy faces, Elaine! I appreciate the help. :-) I really enjoy your picks, too. Is that a photo of your dog next to your screen name?

  22. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

You’re welcome, anytime. Yes, that was our faithful old dog Alex who passed away last year with cancer. It was tough; we had to put him down because he was suffering; but on a happy note, we have two dogs now that are just a riot. They really keep us busy and entertained. We realized after Alex that we couldn’t go another day without a dog and here we came home with two! :-)

  23. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

I’m sorry to hear about Alex’s passing. I know how hard that can be. We lost our precious toy poodle Angel five years ago this past January and I still miss her. We also had to make the difficult decision to let her go (cancer, kidney failure, non-regenerative anemia) at the age of 11 1/2 years after we had tried everything to save her. Ten months later, we adopted a 7-year-old toy poodle who needed rescuing. Her name is Shelby and she has brought us so much joy and happiness. Recently, she was very ill and we thought we might lose her, but she fought hard and won! She is now 11 1/2 and we hope for many more years with her. :-) I hope your two new dogs have brought you much happiness, too.

  24. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

So sorry to hear about your little poodle; I think it is one of the hardest things a person would ever have to do! Wow, this is amazing!! It sounds as though we have had a lot in common! We had a little terrier-cross whom we lost about five years ago ~ her name was Angel. And our Doberman-cross, one of the dogs we have now, is called Shelby. The other is a black lab-cross and her name is Zula. They are both rescue dogs from the shelter. That is the only dogs we will get because they so desperately need homes and these two played together so well. Our daughter thought we were nuts to come home with two relatively large breed dogs; she said to us ‘Do you guys have any idea how old you are?’. But after obedience classes and lots of attention, they have come a long way! :-)

  25. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Wow — we have had a lot in common! Our Angel was white and our Shelby is dark grayish/black with some tan areas. Rescue dogs are wonderful. Some people cautioned us because we didn’t know what we would be getting into (personality, health), but we have never regretted our choice and neither has Shelby! Actually, we are convinced she chose us that day. Some days I’m not sure whether we rescued her or she rescued us! :-)

  26. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

Yep, I know what you mean! Our Shelby smiles, really…..sometimes she smiles so big she looks like the Joker from Batman!….and our Zula talks; kinda sounds like that big dog from the cartoons called Shaggy! The two of them together are hilarious to watch! As far as rescue dogs, I think anyone who knows dogs can tell, and I don’t I don’t think there are any bad dogs; sometimes just really bad dog owners!

  27. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

I agree about the bad dog owners. The family we rescued Shelby from couldn’t afford to pay for her surgery to remove 6 small mammary tumors. The wife was trying desperately to find another home for her where she would be able to get the surgery she needed. Her husband, on the other hand, said to us (over the phone) that if they didn’t find her a home they would just have her put down. Can you imagine?!?! I think I knew right then that she would be coming home with us and we hadn’t even met her yet! Luckily, Shelby’s surgery was successful. Our vet did say that the cells in the tumors were pre-cancerous, so without the surgery she wouldn’t have survived. I’m just thankful that we found her (or she found us!) before anything bad happened to her. She has so much love in her to give and has shared it with so many people over the past 4 1/2 years that she has been with us. Your Shelby and Zula sound as though they have a lot of love to give, too!

Hey just catching up on your convo ladies.
Love the dog chat. We’ve got 2 big pooches of our own Belly Chick, a german shepherd and a husky. I really enjoy hearing your own dog stories.

Lynn Eileen, thank you so much for asking about the smiley face. I had no idea how they did that either. I’m not so good at this computer stuff.
And you are a fellow Hoosier too!! Any bead stores where you are? NONE here, such a bummer. :-(

  39. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

Good morning, Sweet Chick! Good to hear about other people with big dogs! Little dogs are great; we’ve had a couple. But we have been drawn to bigger dogs the last few years ~ maybe it’s the fact that we don’t have to bend down quite so far to pet them (we’re not getting any younger here). :-) In some ways, I think because they have bigger faces that they’re more expressive, I don’t know. Any way, your dogs sound wonderful. I very much admire the Huskies; do they shed a lot?

  40. No Photo
Mary S - Sweet Chick says:

    Hey Belly.
Do huskies shed alot? HHMM. Well yes. But it’s my understanding that most huskies “blow” their coats twice a year. When it all just come out in wads.
Our girl lives outdoors (which she prefers) and she tends to blow her coat only once a year, starting in May and continues for a good part of the summer. I think Sibes that live indoors may have a different shed schedule. Anybody out there that can help me out with this question?
Now my German Shepherd (also known at German shedders) sheds ALL the time but also has his major “blow” starting in mid March and is usually done by mid summer.
Grooming two big dogs like that can seem ENDLESS!! Builds good arm muscles! lol!

OK, what is the bracket thing you guys are talking about, I can’t get this!!!!

  44. Elaine aka Belly Chick
    Elaine aka Belly Chick says:

Hi Sweet Chick, I’ve never heard of dogs ‘blowing’ their coats. Apparently we’ve never had one that did that. Our last dog was like Pigpen, a character from the ‘Peanuts’ cartoon strip. All he had to do was stand there and the fine fur was flying everywhere!! And it was white, so it showed up on everything. German ‘Shedders’ ~ that’s cute! For some reason I thought they were not bad for shedding. Luckily our two dogs that we have now don’t seem to shed very much. Shelby and Zula, even though they are fairly big dogs, seem to think they are lap dogs (spoiled I guess is the correct term) and like to spend time indoors quite a bit. :-)

So interesting to hear all of your dog stories. They can be so loving and comforting, it’s hard to believe that people can be cruel to them. We found our wonderful dog when she was about 5 weeks old. Someone had dumped her in the trash and we heard her crying. She is now almost 9 yrs old and very, very spoiled. She is beagle mix dog and, we think, the perfect size!

  58. Shannon aka Silly Chick
    Shannon aka Silly Chick says:

I’m a Siberian owner and yes, the whole house get wall-to-wall hair at least twice a year – we took up almost all the carpet two years ago for that reason! It is fairly easy to contain if you catch it quick – it comes out in huge clumps. I usually just pull it right off Ginger, like picking cotton! Did you know that there’s a place (can’t remember where) that will spin Sibe hair into yarn!!! I could have a whole wardrobe of dog hair sweaters – :)

Hi Shannon, mmmm…I love the looks of the Siberian Huskies; they are just beautiful dogs, though I can imagine the hair left behind!
Hey Smoky Chick, yep, I am imagining your furry skirts right now; hopefully your cats are mostly black?!! :-)

Mary S AKA Sweet Chick — I live in Kokomo and we have an amazing bead shop here called Heart N’ Soul Beads and Jewelry. The have a wonderful selection (if they don’t have it, they’ll order it), great classes, and the most amazingly wonderful owner and staff!!! I am very blessed to have them here. They have really helped me to grow in my beading skills. Where do you live?

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:

Lynn Eileen, I’m in the Southern half of the state. We’re pretty rural, there really aren’t any large towns to give you an idea of where we are. I’d rather not give out my town name because it’s so small. Lets just say I’m well south of Bloomington. I trust the chicks and LB but who knows who else is reading these convos. Hope you understand.

No problem, Sweet Chick, I understand! :-) My daughter, son-in-law, & grandchildren live in Bloomington, so I’m familiar with that part of the state. Sorry to hear you don’t have a bead shop near you. Maybe someday…
