Great title and interesting info about the sapphires – - but really just a gorgeous pick – - you’ve included several elements that have caught my eye before and I love how you’ve used them here !

One of my beading vendors here in the UK show the sapphires – which look exactly as those in the photo above – with the following information:
“Turundu sapphires are actually from the garnet family produced in Tundure, near Tanzania. Many companies will be selling Turundu simply as sapphires when in fact it is a type of garnet, which would be the reason for the excellent price tag.”

A 35cm (13.75″) strand of 2x3mm stones costs £24.95 – welcome to the expensive UK! Often the smaller faceted stones are more expensive than their larger counterpart but really … we have found that most US prices simply have the dollar sign replaced by a pound (£) sign, which not quite doubles the cost of the item but close enough, depending on the rate of exchange.

Regardless of what these are called, I love the colours and sparkly-ness! And this is a beautiful pick!!!

Well, dang – upon closer inspection, the beads on the UK site have a bit more colour gradation with little orange. To quote the Bard – “A rose by any other name …”

Ya know, Red-haired Granny, there are a lot of mispronounced names in the gem world and I am willing to bet that tundra is just a mispronounciation of Turundu. I know that the Vessonite is a deviation from Vesuvianite. When you have people speaking different tongues, you are going to get some of this!

    Faboulous colorcombo and textures!

I would love if Lima beads could have more facts about the different gems. Like hardness, treatments, quality (I have noticed that there are some more facts added) etc… Maybe difficult? For some gems there are some good info. Ohh now I got that written :) Sorry for hijacking your pick.

Yes, darlin’, I know, just as there are lots of mispronunciations of the names of plants and people and places. For better or worse, I am a librarian’s daughter.
Take care. Am loving the photojournalism updates of your little cutie.

ahhhh, Merilee, I bet you must be a pro at spotting all those words! :) I love to be in a library….so peaceful and so exciting all at the same time. Books are my candy store. :) or were… now it seems gemstones have caught up…
