We saw a bunch of recently hatched baby snappers trying to cross the road to the lake about 3 months ago. They were feisty little 2-3 inch biscuits! I very carefully picked up as many as I could find and carried them across to prevent as many turtle pancake as I could. I never saw any squished on the road so hopefully they were successful!

Lois D says:Love ‘turtle rescue’ stories. My husband and I moved a dinner-plated sized female snapper from the edge of the road near our house this summer. Sadly around here, some people will go out of there way to squish them when they are off to the sides. They tend to like to lay their eggs in the sand at the shoulder of roads…It is beyond my comprehension why some take joy in purposefully hitting any animal. It’s bad enough when some critter runs out in front of your car (like a squirrel), but to go out of your way to hit one?!?! Just cruel…and stupid, as well. OK, I’m done; off soapbox now
