“Twinkies for Dessert”

Description from Little Round Chick: Some where I read part of an article about deep fried Twinkies being all the rage in some high end resturants. Any one ever tried them?

Perfect colors for a fave treat — no matter what your age might be! :D

Nancy, I’ve never tried the deep-fried Twinkies, though they have them each August at our Indiana State Fair, along with deep-fried candy bars and deep-fried Pepsi — no joke! 8O

I’ve also heard of this sort of treat being featured at state fairs, didn’t know they’d made it into restaurants…
I wonder how they accomplish deep-fried Pepsi – freeze it, then batter & fry??? Hmm, could be even riskier than eating jelly donuts.

This pick reminds me I haven’t had breakfast yet! Although I think I’ll have something a little more healthy than this… ;-) . Great pick, BTW!

Perfect Twinkie pick, Nancy! I could have lived on them when I was a kid, but I don’t think they are quite as good as they used to be…the cake was spongier back then. They have the fried ones at a couple fairs, along with the candy bars and other unlikely fried foods, but I’ve never tried them. BTW, I saw a feature on TV about a fair in Texas where they have fried beer!

How in the world can you fry beer and pepsi? That totally boggles the mind. I’ve had deep fried ice cream and it was yummy. If anyone discovers how you fry liquid please share the info. :D

Glad you all liked my twinkies. We can enjoy them this way and they aren’t at all fattening. They just don’t taste too good.

I have absolutely NO idea how they fry a liquid, Nancy! It seems as though it would defy some sort of scientific property…..LOL

I agree with Deb about Twinkies not tasting the same now. The cake is definitely not as soft and spongy anymore. :(

Okay, I had to jump into this conversation, it’s just too fascinating! :P Fried twinkies sound gross and delicious to me at the same time. Does that make sense? I have a friend who swears that fried Snickers bars are to die for. (Literally, I’m sure lol) Yes, how DO they fry a liquid? I guess I will have to Google that. And Deb and Lynn, THANK YOU! I totally agree with you about the Twinkies, they are very different now than they used to be. I used to love them, now they’re kinda gross! :P
