I don’t know HOW I missed this wonderful news?!?! I feel like I’m on here ALL the time. LOL Congratulations!! And what are your colors? And when is this happy day?
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:01 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Hi, Jill! Thanks! Well, it’s actually VERY old news, we’ve been engaged since Dec. of ’07. We don’t have a date yet because it’s basically a matter of when we save up enough money! LOL The colors I’ve decided on are gold, with touches of black and red. (Gold bridesmaid dresses, red roses, black accents, with a Spanish feel to it.) I did a pick on it a while back, I think it’s called Spanish Wedding? if you want to check it out. I was asking all the chicks’ opinions on the color schemes.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:19 am #
Valentine Chick says:Aw…I missed it too! Congrats! And btw, there will never be enough money! HAHA! I think we have all learned that! Best wishes and beautiful pick!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:24 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thanks, Valentine Chick! I know, I have to get over my perfectionism and realize that like you said, there will never be enough money! lol
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:30 am #
Classy Chick JbyJill says:Wow! You will be a stunning bride!!! And, Jen is right, there is never enough money…. Honestly, if I were to do it again, I would prob. have a very small wedding on a cruise or at the beach……
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:35 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thanks, Jill! A beach wedding, hey, now there’s an idea!! Oh no, let me stop before I re-plan the whole thing! LOL!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 11:40 am #
Valentine Chick says:I agree totally! Something quiet, quaint and small! Very romantic!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:03 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:This is a lovely color combo, Ivy! Very soft and pretty!
I went back and left a comment on your “Spanish Wedding” pick. Can’t believe I didn’t know you have a wedding in the works — probably because you always refer to him as your husband, which he is, in essence!
You are going to be the most beautiful bride, no matter what colors you choose, no matter how much money you save up, because the two of you are so much in love!!!!!! It comes through in the picks you do that have a theme related to your love for him, Ivy.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:06 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thanks, Lynn. You’re right, I need to stop focusing on all the petty details and just remember that it’s a ceremony to proclaim our love. After all, that IS the whole point, right?! LOL
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:06 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:I can’t wait to see the pics from Monica’s wedding!!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:23 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:It IS hard to remember that it is about the marriage and not just about the wedding. We want everything to be sooooo perfect on that special day and then it is over in the blink of an eye. Sigh….. But then the real fun begins — your life together! Of course, the two of you are together now. When I got married (1975), my parents would have killed me if we had lived together first! LOL When my daughter and her hubby lived together for almost 3 years before getting married, my mom told me she thought it was a good idea. I almost fainted!!!
Suzanne & Dave just celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary, so they’ve been together 9 years total. Wow! BTW, her dad and I were fine with them living together first — each of them had had a previous engagement that had ended badly and they wanted to take their time and be sure before getting married.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:34 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Personally, I think that’s the way to go, although I know a lot of people don’t agree because of religious reasons or just traditions. But I think that by living together first, they each get to know each other well and it gives them a chance to be sure if they want to spend the rest of their lives together. I have no doubt in my mind that I’m engaged to the right person.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:38 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I agree, Ivy. It really made a difference for Suzanne & Dave. They each had been hurt so badly that they wanted to be sure that there weren’t any trust issues to deal with. Also, before they even dated each other, they were friends and that gave them a solid foundation for their relationship, too.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:41 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:That’s kinda how it happened for me and my husband, too, we had a good friendship first before dating. (I mean fiancee!)
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:42 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:How long have the two of you been together?
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:43 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:We’ve been together since Dec. of ’05 but we were friends for a year before that.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 12:59 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Sounds like you two are a match made in heaven! What’s his first name?
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:03 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Roberto
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:19 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:My hubby’s name is Robert! Everyone calls him Bob, so sometimes, as a reverse nickname, I call him Robert!!! LOL
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:31 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Yeah some people call him Bob, too, and it just does NOT fit him. LOL
Here’s a pic of my real-life Gomez:
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:47 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Ivy, what a great photo of the two of you!!! Gee, maybe you should have a Halloween themed wedding……. just kidding! Don’t want to confuse the issue any more than it already is! LOL
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:49 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:LOL!
He quite literally is a “big-mouth,” isn’t he?! LMAO!!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:54 pm #
Valentine Chick says:Awesome pic! He’s cute! You make a nice looking couple! Nice cigar by the way too! LOL
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:56 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Jen!
No, I don’t think he looks like a “Bob” at all, Ivy!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:57 pm #
Valentine Chick says:I call my husband Roberto too sometimes just to be silly!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:57 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Okay, here’s a “normal” pic of us at the old restaurant!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 1:59 pm #
Valentine Chick says:I like the Halloween one better! HAHA! Just kidding! You guys look very happy together! Now if we can just get this wedding on the way…
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:01 pm #
Valentine Chick says:It seems like you have a lot of fun together too! So do we!!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:03 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:LOL Sometimes I like the Halloween one better, too! Jen, I do the exact opposite, I call him Robert or Bob to be silly. And yes, Lynn, a cigar CAN be JUST a cigar…LMAO
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:04 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Yes, we do have LOTS of fun together, sometimes too much!
I can tell you guys are a happy couple, too.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:07 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I love the photo of the two of you at your old restaurant, Ivy! What do the symbols in your tatoo mean? They appear to be Asian. It looks really nice!
Sometimes Bob gets called Roberto, Robert (with a French accent), or Robes Pierre — it all depends upon how silly of a mood I’m in! Unfortunately, there’s not a lot one can do with “Lynn”……
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:12 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Hmm, no there’s not…but it would be funny if he called you by your full name, as if he were scolding a child! LOL!
I have 4 tattoos actually, the one you see in the pic is the first one I got, it says Ivy in Chinese characters. Looking back on it, maybe it wasn’t the smartest choice.
LOL I always thought it was silly when someone got their own name tattooed on them, and then I go and do it myself!! It was an impulsive thing, which I have a tendency to do. I have to remember that tattoos are permanent! LOL
On Jun 27, 2009 at 2:59 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:I think it looks beautiful on you, Ivy. I’ve seen some that aren’t attractive at all, not because of the workmanship, but because of what the person chose, and then it’s on an area of the body that is exposed most of the time. Yikes!
On Jun 27, 2009 at 3:39 pm #
Jane MS says:Gorgeous pick. Here is some unsolicited wedding advice. My husband and I also paid for our own wedding. We wanted casual elegance. It was fairly traditional but we also broke a lot of ‘rules’. Just remember that there really are no rules. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. I had no bridesmaids, everyone I knew just complained about it. I did have a Maid of Honor and three flower girls( I had three little nieces at the time). No color scheme, no favors, no printed napkins. The reception was at a beautiful winery, we weren’t simply going for cheap. You should be happy and enjoying yourself.
On Jun 27, 2009 at 3:43 pm #
Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:That’s really great advice, Jane!!! More brides should take that to heart these days!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 9:59 am #
Valentine Chick says:A winery would be gorgeous! What a great idea! Outside, wine fields, wine…
On Jun 28, 2009 at 10:49 am #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I finally got around to reading all these comments! Ivy – these colors are beautiful. But I agree that the spanish theme is definitely more suited to you.
Love your photos. You make a very handsome couple!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 11:00 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thank you, Jane and Jeanne! Thanks for your advice, Jane. I agree, I am not going to limit myself with conventional ideas. I’ll take the ones I do like and incorporate some of my own. For example, I was thinking of maybe having the bridesmaids carry a black lace fan instead of flowers. Not sure yet, but it’s an idea.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 11:18 am #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Lovely pick, and great pictures too. I , also missed the part about the upcoming wedding. So, belatedly, congatulations and best wishes!!!!
I like the idea of the fans, Ivy, and was wondering what size you had in mind. A clever floral designer should be able to combine a few flowers, silk or natural, with the fan if you want both. Maybe you could use a small wrist bouquet, with the fan heald in their hands? Just ideas. Sounds like a lovely wedding for two very in-love people. Sigh.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 11:32 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Harriet, thank you, and those are both GREAT ideas! Thank you!! Now I can’t decide which I like better! LOL Flowers incorporated into the fans would be beautiful, but so would a wrist bouquet….
On Jun 28, 2009 at 11:50 am #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Are you thinking silk flowers or naturals? Hint: If you want it to last, go silk. You would not believe the trouble I went to in order to preserve my daughter-in-law’s wedding bouuet w/silica crystals and a glass topped display box.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 11:54 am #
Happy Chick aka Harriet says:And the whole thing is gone now, wrecked in one of their many moves. Oh, well, at least the marriage has outlasted the flowers.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 12:18 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Well we should hope the marriage would outlast the flowers!! LOL Thanks for another great suggestion, Harriet, I hadn’t even thought of that!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 12:47 pm #
CAS says:Ivy, the pictures of you and Roberto are beautiful. I can’t wait to meet him in person, he looks quite the character.
I think a simple black fan with maybe a rose in their hair would be pretty too. My sister made simple haircombs with silk flowers for us to wear at her wedding, and my sister-in-law had hair bows to match our dresses for her and my brother’s wedding. I’ve seen and read of weddings over the different eras where things other than flowers were carried, bibles most often, but also fans, rosaries and green branches.
I’ve been to a number of non-church weddings. My other sister got married at an Inn on an island off the coast of Maine, some friends of mine were married at a cabin on a river bank, some others in a farm field, and two other friends were married at a picnic area/beach on the town pond down the street from my house. They didn’t have any ushers/bridesmaids, their dog had the rings tied in a pouch to his collar and the grooms sister walked him down the “aisle”. A wedding doesn’t have to be elaborate, as the Chicks have said it’s all about the love you and Roberto share.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 12:48 pm #
Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:“Lunch at Mohonk Mtn. House” Wouldn’t THIS be a beautiful place for your wedding, Ivy?!
LOVE this pick! It went right into my favorites!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 12:53 pm #
Jane MS says:OOh! I love the idea of the black fans with flowers in their hair. How about red roses with a little black tulle. Now you probably have way to many ideas.
On Jun 28, 2009 at 1:04 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thank you very much CAS, Debbi, and Jane!
Another fabulous idea, CAS, I was actually considering having the bridesmaids wear a single red rose in their hair. And Jane, the black tulle idea is great! Thank you! It’s the perfect subtle black accent that I was looking for. Thank you so much chicks for all the great ideas and inspiration!! No one else but you guys!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 1:05 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Oh yeah, Debbi, Mohonk WOULD be a beautiful setting, but a little too pricey!
On Jun 28, 2009 at 1:07 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:CAS, I know what you mean, I can really appreciate non-traditional weddings, especially in outdoor settings.
We can’t wait to meet you, either, and yes, he is quite a character. LOL
On Jun 29, 2009 at 3:40 pm #
Valentine Chick says:Not that my opinion matters…but, I love the fans and the idea with single flowers in your hair. How beautiful!!!
On Jul 09, 2009 at 9:51 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Jen, of course it matters! That’s why I asked all of you chicks to help me decide on a color scheme a while back!
On Jul 09, 2009 at 11:17 am #
Chicky Bear-Tara says:I don’t know how I missed this one Ivy. It is beautiful.
On Jul 09, 2009 at 11:19 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Hey, thanks Tara!
On Jul 09, 2009 at 5:54 pm #
Cotopaxi Chickie Sue says:I’m with Tara on this, Ivy – don’t know how I missed this – it’s drop dead stunning! Very rennaisance!
On Jul 09, 2009 at 6:11 pm #
Shannon aka Silly Chick says:Ivy – boy am I slow on the uptake! Had to read all of this to get caught up to date! First – You and Roberto are one “hot tamale” of a couple (hope that’s not inappropriate – it’s a compliment deeply meant – you’re a stunning lady!). Second – Love the color scheme you’ve chosen and the black fan idea is so wonderfully and classically Spanish! Third – this pick is really special – one of my favorites that you’ve done, I think! THERE!! I think that covers it!! I gotta keep up better!
On Jul 10, 2009 at 9:39 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:LOL Thank you very much, Shannon!

You are going to make a beautiful bride. Happy for you!
On Jul 21, 2009 at 4:38 pm #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Hey, Lilly! Thank you very much!
We’re not newly engaged, we’ve been engaged since Dec. of ’07 but I’ve been playing around with wedding colors and schemes recently for when the wedding actually happens!

On Jul 22, 2009 at 9:46 am #
Chicky Bear-Tara says:Ivy, I had to see what was up and re-read and read all the comments! Congratulations on your engagement. You are beautiful and your fiance is very handsome! I’m sure you will be very happy together. It sounds like you have a great time together! Best wishes on your upcoming wedding.

Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:I keep spending it on BEADS!!!
On Jul 22, 2009 at 10:45 am #
Elaine aka Belly Chick says:First of all, very pretty pick!! I read all of the comments and I also think that a single rose with black tulle would be very pretty and a little less expensive!! And you two make a very charming couple… Roberto is very handsome and you are very very pretty!! Congratulations on the fact that you have found each other!!
On Jul 22, 2009 at 10:50 am #
Cuban Queen Crazy Chick says:Thank you, Elaine!
And I do really appreciate everyone’s input. I can be a little indecisive and over-analyzing at times. LOL
